Hi...I was wondering about the Sony T9 movie files and then I realized that the THM file was just an extra file that you really don’t need. Right next to that file is the movie file. They both have the same name just one is a THM. Click on the other one and it will play in Windows Media, Real One, Quicktime...any of them.
For instance my move was MOV00215 (movie clip) and right next to it was MOV00215 (THM file).
Click on Views in the tool bar and then click on Thumbnails. When you do that all your files will become pictures. You’ll notice that the movie clip file will have a photo and the THM file will have an info page or something like it. Maybe even a windows media icon. Just click on the one with the photo and it will play.
I hope this isn’t clear as mud. I don’t plan to throw away the THM file until I’m sure it won’t hurt the movie file.
Have fun with these wonderful portable little cameras..I just love 'em.
Need some help here!
I am using Canon IXUS 40and took some video with my grandparents but now i want to convert them as AVI files so i can share with other family memners via email but somehow when they get the email they can’t watch it via real or windows media player...

Hi all, I have a sony cybershot DSC-S90 with a 512 MB memory stick. I take a lot of video but have trouble emailing them because they seem to be too large (i.e. a 2.5 min. video is 59 MB - a 40 sec. video is 14MB.) I there any way I can take the video in a smaller size so I can email them - or compress them to send? I get both the .avi file (which I can play in MS Movie Player) and the .thm (which I can do nothing with, including changing the file type or opeing in winzip.
I got a question, i also used a sony cybershot digicam to record a video and cant play on my windows media player b/c its a THM file, i checked off the “hidden files...etc." how can i watch the video??? how do i change the file type? Im in need of assistance!!
Hi there, might sound strange but I have a sony dsc-n1 with 3” screen that plays mpeg-1 files. I wanted to convert current video clips such as avi from my comp and send them to my memory card to watch on the camera screen. Do you know if this is possible? I’ve tried and failed, think its something to do with the .thm file or could be the bitrate etc for the camera that I need to set. Thanks a lot, any advice would be appreciated. Luce
Please someone help me to convert these .thm files. I have a Sony DSC T1 CyberShot camera and when I take short movies, I cannot play them in Windows Media Player. How can I convert them? I read some of the comments after I sent this message. Sorry, I am an idiot but no one has really explained what to do to these .thm files so that I can watch them in Windows Media Player. I have tried previously to change the extension to something else with no luck. I had loads of short little movies on my camera that I would not delete because the only way that I could watch them was on my camera. Do I need to purchase software to do this?
Hi all ! I’m from Bulgaria and.. a have a problem with my Cyber-Shot..
I want to watch video files from my computer to the camera.. I convert the video to *.mpg format but it dosent work.. 0_o
Can you help me? :(
Are you people kidding me? Do you not see the mpg file right next to the thm file that has the exact same name? The mpg file is your movie. The thm file containts EXIF data. (It is extra info usually stored in images files like jpeg’s.) For the most part you guys can ignore the thm files.
For the guy who wants to place videos to the camera, copy it to the memory card into the correct folder. Just make sure it is in mpeg2 format.
