If you want an easy one to understand you could try convertXtoDVD. It’s not free but as the name implies it can convert most (if not all) video formats to DVD.

Regular

Requirements to save your DVD.

a) Dual Layer DVD Drive (To read all sectors of the disc)
b) AnyDVD(To remove copy protection and rip the DVD)

Ok, start AnyDVD and tell it to remove APS, PUOs, DVD Autoruns, and Copy protection that uses unreadable sectors.

If you want, tell it to also remove Regional Protection (Top 3 options), but sometimes in older DVD players, this may cause problems.

Now, right click the AnyDVD icon in your taskbar and Rip to image.

Alternatively, you could use CloneDVD to do this.

All the programs can be found here http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
