I have windows media player, quicktime, and real player...none will support the AVI file type.

I’ve updated all programs, and I’m getting sound but no video...do a need a different player??

thanks so much!

Go to Videolan.com or search VLC player in google... it the the MOST usefull player... if that doesnt work.... Real alternate..... but IF that doesn’t work.... try it on a friends comp... and if THAT still doesn’t work... the deleting of the file would be proper...

.AVI files needs codecs such as divx and xvid. You can just google it for codecs. If you want to no for sure just right-click your movie go to properties and select the “summary” tab and look at what it says about video compression. Thats the codec u need. I use the ACE bundle codecs and it has all the codecs you could ever need the only problem is the download will be about 100mb. There are many smaller codecs packs that have the most popular ones used.

I downloaded AVIcodec at http://avicodec.duby.info/, which allowed me to find out what type of codec was used on the file I could hear but not see. In my case it was motion JPEG. I did a search on motion JPEG and found codec at www.free-codecs.com. After the download I could see the video in all my players.
