I downloaded a movie with folders CD1 and CD2. In each folder there are 47 .rXX files. .r00 - .r29 have the winRAR icon while .r30 - .r47 are not found by Windows. There is also a .sfv and a .rar file.

I have been to many sites and read many many things. I have extracted files searching for a bin/cue file but to no avail. The only thing that comes out is an .avi. I tried burning that to a DVD-R with Nero but once it’s nearly finished it pops out the CD and says it’s not empty and asks me to enter an empty CD.

I also have Alcohol 120% but that doesn’t help much since I don’t have an image file or anything. I’ve tried Avi2DVD but it always messes up. I’ve spent hours messing with programs and looking stuff up. Can anyone help me make this to where it can be burned onto a DVD?

what you need to is is,
find the file called xxx.rar that is the first one. the second is .r00 then .r01 etc. Once you have opened the .rar file, is (if there is no rar file then goto the .r00 file) open it with winRAR. There will be something like a .mfs + .mdf files inside, extract them, then winRAR will automatically keep reading from the other files, even the onces that arent reckonised with windows.

If you want to open the .SFV file, which is really only to check if any of the files are corrupt go here:
http://www.quickpar.org.uk/Download.htm
That program will scan the files, thats all!

NOTE ALSO:

TO OPEN THE MDF AND MDS (MAY ALSO BE ISO) YOU WILL NEED A IMAGE PROGRAM, E.G. WINISO OR ISOBUSTER!
once got that, open the BIGGEST file, not the one that is like 4kb. then extract the contents with the image program.

All the files I extracted were the same .avi file. There were no .mfs or .mfd or .bin or .cue. Just .avi.
After exhaustive research I came upon a tip by some Skyler (Guest) who mentioned DVD Santa. I downloaded it (full version is better to have than trial as the trial has bloody annoying watermarks). This program conevrted my two .avi files (from CD1 & CD2) to .vob files and then burned them directly to DVD. The DVD so far has worked in both standalone DVD players I tried it in along with a PS2 DVD player.

I’m still confused about why I didn’t get a .bin and .cue file from what I had, though.

Okay,
If you want a program to convert avi and mpg etc. you will need to download one from a p2p program. my converter program is :
Cucusoft AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro
Just search for “Cucusoft AVI”
Find one that sounds reasonable and is roughly 5-10mb’s, and has registered copy in the name. install that and do what needs to be done. this will allow a clear and whateva conversion without a watermark.

p2p programs:
kazaa
bearshare
limewire

these will do the job.

hope this helps you.

I used dvdSanta to convert my .avi files to .vob. Then dvdSanta burned the files straight to my DVD disc and the DVD thus far has played on 3 different stand-alone DVD players along with a PS2 DVD player.

Actually, once you’re used to the .rar files, it’s not that difficult. Once you extract one of the .rar files you should get your bin and cue files. If not, it doesn’t neccesarily mean you were 'duped'. It just means you have a little more research to do.
Try to look for any information text files that came with your download that should have instructions for extracting and burning, &c.

hello. I messed around with some stuff quite a bit. open the AVI files with no sound ion divX player, and then click stop, or try to run it, it will give you a error message saying you dont have the certain codec you need. use a search engine to find the codec, and play the movie with sound!

Yeh, it all works.

But still, people have to make things easier, not harder. If a movie needs a codec, then it should come with the codec. Basic really.

Now, go download 'Curse of the Golden Flower.' I give it 5/5. Slow at the start, but OMG OMG!!!

ok not all systems will need the codec, only the ones that dont have it, its not something that people encode in the video, well it is, but not intentially, a codec just lets a file of that specific type to be played
some people have them on their comps other people dont so there is really no way of somebody putting a codec in with a video because they dont always know what is needed to play it on other peoples computers
