.MDF files generally differ from the other types of image files out there (ISOs and BINs). MDF image files are created by a virtual CD/DVD image editor, therefore resulting in another editor to open them. In order for you to open .MDF files, there are certain things you need to get first.

Required Tools
1) Magic Iso - get it for free at http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm

Instructions

1) Download Magic Iso and install it.

2) Load up Magic Iso.

3) At this point, you have the option of buying the full version of Magic Iso if you want to use it indefinitely for a later usage, or click “Try It!" for a trial run. For this tutorial, we’re going to go ahead with the trail, so click that option.

4) Click the “Tools” tab on top and go to the third option that says “Virtual CD/DVD Drive”

5) In the window that pops up next to it, hover your mouse cursor over the first option until another window appears and choose “Change Driver Letter”

6) Click on “Change Drive Letter” and choose which drive you want Magic Iso to emulate. For this tutorial, let’s pick (Msmiley

7) Go back to “Virtual CD/DVD Drive” > “M: No Media” > and now click “Mount”

8) In the explorer window, browse for the .MDF file you want to emulate and select it. Press “Open”.

9) In the Magic Iso browser, your file should now be emulated, with a full list of files of the .MDF image.

10) Right click the main directory of the emulated drive on the lefthand list of the browser.

11) Choose “Extract”

12) A explorer window should now have sprung up, asking you where you want to extract the files to. Extract the file to wherever you want.

Congratulations, you have just opened a .MDF file and extracted all the data within! Remember these tips for the next time you run across one of these types!

Hi yeah i just downloaded the sims and got a .mds and a.mdf file too. the only one mountable onto daemontools is the smaller mds file. I have tried 'extracting' the larger mdf files with winRAR but have had no luck... can anyone help?

You i never had a problem with DAEMON Tools it works pretty good just mount the bitch.. If you have problems with that try extracting or viewing files with a software like ultra iso....

Here is the answer from another forum...

Thought I’d share, as I’ve been looking for a way to do this for a while, and gave up on the sluggish/crash-ridden virtualpc solutions.

For image files containing just .mds and .mdf, it’s sufficient to rename the .mdf to .iso. Burn this file as image file in Toast.

For image-files containing an .md0-file, You need “Split and Concat”
http://download.com.com/3000-2179-10212101.html

Here’s how:
(Leave the .mds-file alone - You don’t need it, but it’s not in the way either).
Rename the other files, for instance:

if Your file batch looks like this:
File.mds - (8kcool
File.mdf - (3,99Gcool
File.md0 - (69,9Mcool

rename them to

File.mds - (8kcool
File.iso.001 - (3,99Gcool
File.iso.002 - (69,9Mcool

Of course, the .mdf is the first - and main - file, so it should be named 001.

Open Split and Concat,
click on “concat”, and locate and choose the two .iso files (click the first and shift-click the other to select both). Click “open”.

Now, Split and Concat should present You with a nice progress bar, so sit back and relax.

When finished (it takes no more than a few minutes), check the size of the new .iso-file to see that it’s roughly the same as the size of the old .mdf and .md0 combined.
If it’s the same size as just one of the old files, double-check the renaming-process.

When successful, burn in Toast!

Hope I explained it well enough... I’ve had two successful tries out of two, so it looks like it’s the way to go.

Good luck!

Look I also downloaded Sims 2 University and, what I found out was that you could download a trial software. In this software, it let’s you burn the cracked game onto a disk therefore you could install to your computer. [Here’s the link]
