Don’t “convert” anything. Change the file extension from .mod to .mpg - it works! reply

I have the same problems plus a hardware problem with my camera. The play button on the camera does not work. So I cannot playback the movies on TV or on the camera. I have to transfer it to PC to watch. So with this problem you can imagine how deep s..t I am in..

My business laptop does not allow me to install Cyberlink but I use a software called Total Video Convert to convert video files. It is a good program, you can convert any kind of file to another one without knowing the exact file extensions. (for example you can convert your .mod files to a file which can be played on a psp, ipod, windows mobile device or etc.) It is also quite user friendly.

Anyway, I can convert MOD to avi or mpeg, but the quality sucks ! You can observe horizontal lines and vibrating images in some quick movements. Does this happen to you who used cyberlink to convert the files. I should figure out where the problem is...all files I tried (avi, mpg, wma) have this problem.. reply

Hi Guys,

I have just started to edit videos as part of my job. Currently trying to import .MOD files into Windows movie maker. Having issues as Windows MM is unable to import such files. Right now I am taking your advice in downloading Converio 2.0 If that does not work, do you have any other ideas to resolve this? Also, is is possible to segment audio from the video footage in Windows MM??

MAny Thanks,

Mitch reply

Ok, y’all. I just got me that everio camera, and I failed to put the files on movie maker. So I got the AVS video converter advertised on this very page, and it only converted on video succesfully. I came back from the endymion parade and had filmed Kid Rock and some videos of my freinds, the kid rock videos have horrible picture when posted on YouTube, but I think that was a Youtube problem. Meanwhile my friend’s video will not convert at all. Is there a easier way to convert files, cause my friends are getting impatient reply

I bought a Panasonic SDR-H40/PC hard drive camcorder, and I spent hours going down the line of this and other question/answer sites, and I believe I found a simple, easy way to turn these .MOD files into .AVI, which can be used in the Windows Movie Maker with ease. (add note, I am using Vista)

I found it out of frustration, I just put a .MOD in my PSP movie converter... and it worked.

Go to:
http://www.redkawa.com/

and download the PSP Video Converter, it’s free.

It should convert the .MOD to a .MP4.

Now go to:
http://www.pazera-software.com/products/mp4-to-avi-converter/
and download the Pazera MP4 to AVI Converter 1.2, it also is free.

Don’t let it intimidate you, I just use the settings that was already there, (Xvid 1.1.3 Final) in the bottom left corner, and I put a check mark in the 2 pass encoding. Everything else is auto, already set.

That will convert your file to an AVI file.

Now beware, it “might” ask for some codex, but if I remember right, it told me the one I needed. Either way, it works for me. I hope this helps someone. reply

Just get a programme that will handle .MOD and be done with it (Premier Elements)...save yourself a lot of hassle...

all you need to do is have file extensions shown via “folder options” then view...

Then simply change the .mod to .mpg reply

ladyhawkex methid wirked perfect for me but there was just one step that I had to do which I’ve indented below but still thank Ladyhawke

Open Cyberlink Power Director.
Open and check your footage.
When you import your footage, note that you only see the .MOD, not the .MOI. That is because the MOI is the audio file and is opened with the .MOD (Its automatic.)
Make sure you can play your footage in cyberlink.
(I had to drag my footage down onto the timeline so that the “produce” button became active. I got a message but I just went ok)
Select your footage (green outline)
Select “produce” to open your render window.
Assign your output.
Select “create a file” and click “Next”.
Select “AVI”
In the left drop down list underneath, Select Microsoft AVI.
In the right drop down, Select your quality.

Click the settings button(The Wrench)to open AVI profile settings.
Select Compression “Microsoft Video 1” and
Select Composition “Video and Audio”
Then Click O.K. and it goes back to produce window.
Click next.
Double check your “export file”. This is where you want to find the AVI when it is done.
And Click Start.
Now you have a video clip that Movie maker can slice and dice. reply

TO Ladyhawke...or anyone else who can help...I have approximately 100Gigs of video I’d like to edit into various products. I prefer Premier Pro for my compiling, sequencing, titling, and editing etc. “PP” also does not like .MOD and I can’t afford to buy “Elements”. I have 2 questions for you: 1)Can I import several clips in Power Director, use your method of converting them to .avi, and still edit to my delight in Premier?, and 2) How long would it take to convert say 1 hours worth of .MOD into .AVI? Thanks in advance for your assistance... reply

Prism Video Converter may well change them into wmv-files:

http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/plus.html

Here you can see what files it can convert, and MOD seems to be in there:

http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/kb/1217.html

At any rate, it’s extremely easy to use and it will cost you very little time to try.

Use the free version... reply
