I tried using winavi to convert a 400MB rmvb movie file (with whatever the default settings are in winavi converter).
It worked, but the output avi file was less than half the size of the original rmvb file (less than 200Mcool and the picture quality was terrible (very pixelated) compared with the original rmvb file which played fine and smoothly with latest version of windows media player.
I also like burning to DVD which is why I wanted to convert, but I would prefer to maintain the quality of the original rmvb file in the conversion.
Any suggestions?

Downloading the .rmvb will take half the time of an.avi or.divx and winavi converts it to DVD usually in less than an hour.

If anyone else is like me and prefers to watch their movies on a standalone DVD player ( I take my portable DVD to work) .rmvb is the easiest and quickest download and conversion.

Can you give the name of plugin or url? Googled and found only Nero Mega Plugin Pack 1.0. Is this the one? It doesn’t seem to say that it supports rmvb.

ants wrote: ??? Nero vision plays rmvb, decodes and encodes , burns the .rmvb straight to dvd? whats the issue ..

Unless you havent got the latest plugins ..

Do a google search on “rmvb plugin for nero”

I downloaded something using bitTorrent, and now I have these two files that end in "-rmbus.1.rmvb” and "-rmbus.2.rmvb”

WinAvi isn’t converting them, Windows Media Player can’t play it, and I just want to watch my movie! What should I do?

i use realproducer plus which includes realmedia editor, which can join all the .rmvb files without any problem.

u can then convert the whole movie after join, to the format u wish with another sofware.

media player classic is still the best i know apart from real player itself, to play these .rm or .rmvb files

i tried vlc player but it played only the sound and it staggered every 1 or 2 secs.

REAL networks are notorious for their intrusive software.

Really, you could actually only need to install Media Player Classic and the required codecs, because this free open-source media player can open/play several different formats, not only REAL media.. It just needs a bit of configuring.

Real Alternative:

QuickTime Alternative:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm

These two packs come with Media Player Classic and the required codecs.

1. Use something like Realaudio-to-Wav Recorder to encode the Real Audio to WAV (PCM/16bit/44.1kHz).

http://www.geocities.com/rawavrecorder/

2. Now use TMPGEnc:

First close wizard, then load in a Template (use Load button - right corner). Choose one that’s best for your video - NTSC (29.97 fps), NTSCFilm (23.976 fps) or PAL (25 fps)

Video source: should be - original RMVB file
Audio source: should be - the WAV file that was created.

START to encode.

http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/tmpgenc.html

TMPGEnc and Realaudio-to-Wav Recorder are freeware programs, but there are other ways of doing the conversion.

EO Video is another one that can do it. It is not totally free though. You only get a short trial period before it must be purchased:

http://www.eo-video.com/

thanks a lot man.. It really worked with this kind of extension... cheers...

to play rmbv files all you need is the codec. Once you have it installed your file it’s playable with any media player. I use Bsplayer. To get the codec google for “Real Alternate”. The pack it’s small around 15mb and works fine. No need to get the full pack with RealOne. Enjoy!
