Why won’t my computer let me play any of the AVI files i download for smallville? I have all the codecs i need( i think) and avi files won’t work. I have to find avi files and play them in quicktime to watch the episodes, which are hard to find.
hi. i have a similar problem but am reposting because the extension for the file i have is slightly different. the filename of the veronica mars episode i downloaded ends in “hdtv.xvid-fqm.[VTV]” and whenever i try playing it (i’ve tried real player, windows media player and winamp), i can hear the audio but i can’t see any pictures. please help me! how do i fix this problem?
I had the same problem with a Threshold XVID-fov.avi file. Took me some time but I downloaded the DivX codec v6.0.3 for Windows XP/2000 from http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/
Played it through the DIVX player and it all works. Hope this helps.

I still can’t do it! :( I have downloaded ffdshow and an xvid codec, but it still will not play in windows media player! what do I need?? I have downloaded the smallville episode that I think you’re talking about:
smallville 5x01 hdtv fov
but it won’t play!! arrgh! please help!
celtic druid binary codecs works. Downloaded the less than 300k file, instaled it and now Windows Media Player will play the xvid Fov file perfectly.
Just a point but celtic druid binary codec didn’t work for me for the .fov file I had and until I got the full DivX codec v6.0.3 it wouldn’t work, although since I got that version it works in media player or vlc or nero showtime or my PVR player or real player or power DVD etc.. Hope that helps.
Merry Xmas to all!

I downloaded every single episode from Star Trek TNG and Voyager. They were all xvid and most xvid-fov.
I tried for months to convert them using various programmes and they refused to work. I am not kidding, 3 months spent on these files.
NEVER toucj anythihg with fov in.
I got some other Start Trek files from Niteshadows site and they are fine.
hi there,
can anyone help me how can i play a file which contains an extension .rar....i wpold be very much thankfulk to them thnx bye waitin for a reply ba bye take care
. rar files are compresed (like winzip) and need to be opened/extracted using winrar, just gogle it, it is free.
I downloaded every single episode of Star Trek, original, next generation and voyager.
After converting about half of them and burning to DVD I found I couldn’t do the rest. I kept the original files on DVD’s and 1 year later they still won’t work, despite me now understanding what I am doing.
The most likely culprit? FOV
NEVER download anything done by them as you are asking for trouble.
I have since downloaded every version all over again and they have been successfuly converted .
Avoid FOV at all costs or you are going to spend an awful lot of wasted time and frustration.
Hi,
I downlaoded the latest version of DivX player and it all worked fine. It would only work with DivX player not anything else.
cheers
The xvid-fov.avi files are funny. I downloaded some for House M.D. and they played fine on the harddrive. But when I burn them to a data disc style DVD, they wont play in Media player. I can play them on my Dixv player, but the computer wont play them. The orignal download will play , not the burned one. go figure!
hey, just rename it to .avi
worked for me.. on episode 10 season 6 smallvile fov file..

I downloaded a file named smallville.s06e16.hdtv.xvid-fqm.[VTV].avi from the emule, and I can’t watch it although I’ve already tried everything mentioned in this forum. Please, please I need help!
I realise this post is old, but didn’t really answer my question. So here is the answer now I have it.... update your rar software. Stuffitexpander for Mac for example won’t uncompress the whole fov set.Current versions of UnrarX/Winrar did however (and automatically created a watchable AVI file.
Try Gom Player, it worked for me.
No fancy tricks, nothing, just chose Gom Player from the list and it played.
