Hey! To those who pretend they know about mkv extension video files, dream on. This is the real thing about how to handle these mkv files. Easy as this, go to Matroska official home page. By the way mkv means matroska video. I hope this help you about mkv file extension.

I had 49 *.001 - *.049 files and I managed to join them together. But now i dont know what I should do with the compact file. It does not have a extention to it at all and when i try and change it into a avi or mpeg it wont play in divx player or windows media player. What can i do to play the file..

I’ve been trying all day looking up different codecs, winrars, players....etc..nothing works.

I have 27 files, 25 of them are ogg or ogm...

1 is a sfv file and 1 is a md5 file.

I try to play one file and it says 00.00...when I try to unpack the file, it says, there is no archive...so i think it is already unpacked but I don’t know.

Any help?

Try typing in “ogg (or ogm)file player/converter” in google. Then choose one of the programs.

Dvd santa, Avi joiner , dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, alcohol 120%, winrar and hjsplitt are the only programs i use to convert/join/encode etc etc etc
These programs are all you need.

Adam?

You say that the file that you came up with had no extension. Which one worked in VLC?

And do know if you have the right codec? On the first page, someone suggested that if you right click on the file, and check properties, you can learn the codecs used and then you can d-load them.

Click the swf files, as they will check the ogg files for corruption, then get VLC or Zoom player.

They are both free I believe, and both play nearly everything. Zoom, I feel, has a better interface.

Also, you may need to get the Combined Community Codec Pack. It has a variety of codecs for dual language media. There are tales of virus-laden codecs, but this is clean and fairly complete.
(For me, it has worked better than the official Matroska set, so you anti-codec pack jerks can go bugger a bat.)

Im having some issues w/ this as well. I downloaded both the 40 year old virgin, & memoirs of a geisha, and they both went to avi formatt. I have Xvid, and I used the VLC player, but it only plays the background track. I can not hear any speaking. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks,

Melissa

If you’re still having probs with subtitles like I had....... I used http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm

download the VSfilter on that page, unzip it into windows 32 folder then run the file from run on the start bar. The page has step by step instructions if you’re not sure how to install .dll files.

This has worked with all subtitle files i’ve tried so far.....select the sub file with the video file together and play them as if they were one file.

I downloaded a file recently namely, the Full Metal Alchemist Movie. I open the file and see all these files with .r01-.r40 or something. I am on a mac, and I have tried using stuffit expander, but it always gets really close to unzipping it, but at the last second says there is an error. What can I do to remedy this?

rar files are files that have been compressed and maybe split using winrar
to uncompss them you need to open with winrar and click extract
