Can you remove codecs that you've installed?

posted in File Types, viewed 15k times

i’ve been trying to play this .ogm file in WMP10, i have the OGG program installed, but i still can’t watch the file.
I’ve noticed after i installed my OGG program, i clicked on Show Details, there are certain files or whatever said that it was “skipped." if that is a problem, how can i fix it? i’ve also been installing many different audio n video codecs that i don’t really need. i tried look in the Add/Remove program, the codecs i’ve installed are not listed. Are there any other ways that i can remove the codecs?

I’m looking for the same thing... How to remove all installed codecs.

I was using Nero 6.? to convert mpeg/divx/avi to VOB and all was working fine until i tried to do it with XVID. I got an error .. cannot reference “0x066..." at memory location “0..." and finally found a fix (install a yv12 codec and change the reg reference to xvid.dll).

It worked ... to an extent. I no longer had the above error, but nero wouldn’t convert them and also wouldn’t convert my old vids that it used to work on. I uninstalled nero/all new codecs i could and still nothing works.

Therefore i need a program that can remove every codec i have and start afresh.. reply

Click right on My Computer pick properties and click on Hardware tab.Click left on Device Manager and also on the plus in front of Sound, video and game controlers.Click right on audio codecs and pick properties and click again on properties on the new window and there we go start removing.Same for video codecs. reply

I’m after coming across a very handy program and very good help with it.

Its called Zoom Player Standard, which will enable you to “Un-register” any codecs you have installed, so that you have a “clean system” and then it guides you through re-installing all the codecs you need.

Go to the end of the article
- Locked Files, The Merit System, A Clean Start and Final words

which tells you how to clean your system.

It works as i have just followed the instructions and now happily? none of my movies or anything will play... so hopefully when i follow the rest of the guide, everything will work fine. reply
