Hi girls looks like you got a meeting with this post.Besides the original post everybody got a problem. My advice is download tools like Gspot and Avicodec both analyzers and give you details about audio and video codecs you may need. Also is a must to have for audio AC3 filter install.Codecs packs like mega stay away from it you don’t need all the stuff but lite packs like All in One or K-Lite or XP Codecs is good to have one also Xvid and DivX.Good players like VLC,BSplayer and Media Classic work much better than WMP made by Microcheap. No wonder I use now Opera 8.51 no Java better than IE.One question was about using VSO DivX to dvd to merge two files. The latest version works very well with multiple files just load them in order and the final dvd is going to have both.In the new version they included some new features like Author and is not done yet the add for subtitle. Here is a link for free codecs:http://www.free-codecs.com/ Don’t be shy and start downloading it’s free!

Hi,
I had the .avi - problem before, but then I downloaded FFDShow, and I could finally see my movies again.
But when I tried to convert a movie from .avi to .wmv (so that I could play it on a Pocket PC), it only came sound, NO picture!
- CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?
Thanks.

Hi, I’m new to all of this which will undoubtly be obvious. I don’t know any of the jargon for this codec thing. I have Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator 6, however I only have a CD burner and DVD player on my laptop. I have three movies DIVx ?. AVI. I want to burn them to a CD to be played on a DVD player. To say the least these files are huge and creating havoc on my hard drive and virtual memory. Where do you look to change the file? Properties reads the file type is a Video Clip on the one. The video compression reads DivX Codec the audio format is MPEG Layer-3.....Totally LOST! Thanx for any help.

I was able to play all my avi files until recently WMP would tell me it was unable to open them. I installed ffdshow and now I can play them but there is no colour. All my other files such as mpg play just fine. Any idea how to fix this?

Starr, if you want to play an ave file on your DVD player I believe you’ll have to find a program that will convert the avi file to DVD. I believe there is a trial version of Ultra Video Joiner (just Google it) and I think it will do the job.
Now I hope someone can tell me why I have no colour when I play avi’s but all other formats are ok. A short while ago they played just fine. Gspot tells me I have the proper codecs but something is apparently screwed up.

Ummm. all you need is a media player that plays avi. its not that hard to find. why would you need to switch it to dvd? that is just more work than its worth. Winamp has support of avi and i think real player does as well. You have to go into the options or properties and make sure that you have checked off support for that particular file format. If not, look up codecs. Hope this helps. If not, look for an open source media player. Those tend to be better than micro$ofts stuff.

Oh. and also, it depends where you are downloading your avi’s from. and it depends on the quality of the actual file. if the file is corrupt or just crappy in general, then of course it isn’t going to work correctly even with avi stuff working. So yea. If you guys are using Limewire for this stuff, i’d suggest you dont. along with anything else like kazaa or bear share, etc. not to mention because its illegal, the file itself probably has trogans, viruses, and spyware on it that screws windows big time.

Unfortunatley my experience is different. My problem begins after I write to DVD. One PC cannot read the disk at all and the other will only play sound. The first machine plays perfectly from the hard disk. HELP. Losing faith in DVD (my first attempt). I found CD was like this for years - USELESS!

Heya. Make sure that you are burning it to DVD correctly. what kind of file are u trying to burn? a movie, or a other types of files? If it’s your first time burning to dvd, make sure that you do have a dvd burner, and not just a cd/dvd player with cd burner. lol. common mistake. its all good!
