AVI Problems - Codec? Invalid?

Same problem here...I created an avi file and it plays in my Windows Media Player at home. This is a work presentation. When I brought the file to work on CD to play in my work Windows media Player, it played audio, no video. The problem at work is that due to security reasons, we can’t download anything onto our computers here. Why in the world would WMP work at home and not at work? What can I do?

Okay, so I’m having similar problems: windows media won’t play any of my .avi’s. I either get just audio or a pop up saying that it can’t handle this format. I tried downloading the DiVX but that doesn’t seem to be working either. I’m not on a Mac, I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. It just says that Windows can not open this file (the DIVX download). If anyone could help I would be so thrilled b/c I really, really, really want to watch these downloads!

2 Brock. I guess there is nothing much U can do about it 4 not being able 2 watch any of ur movies. Every working places or offices have their own rules..by allowing staffs 2 see n surf or none @ all.
2 Kami. WMP is 1 of the few pre-historic media player still exist. U can ytry something better like vlc. It’s a player that play everything.
DL it n judge it 4 urself.

Brock.....Your workstation needs codecs, but if you cant download them from work can you download the mega codecs pack and put it on a cd and install it on your workstation. Or is installing anything on your workstation prohibited.

Oh thanks so, so much! I downloaded DiVX and it ROCKS!!! I can watch my tv show!!! I have one more thing, though. One of the episodes plays video but no audio. All the rest are fine. Is it just a bad file?

I came across this forum in a search to help my friend with his video codecs. I told him to download DivX for windows xp. did not work with the avi file types. In fact the divx didnt even play them at all. i looked under device manager in the control pannel under system. seems to be that his video codec is not working properly. do any of you know an easy way to fix this. i dont think my friend wants to reinstall his video codecs...
Thanx,

I have a questions that has been stumping me for almost a week now. I downloaded a movie (and .avi) through limewire its two files, it plays on my wmp, etc, but when I went to use a joiner to join the files, it tells me that i am missing codecs.
When I did a codec check it tells me that all of the codecs I need are there. I have even tried Divfix and it tells me there were no errors.
I used DivXtoDVD and converted it to a vob file to burn, and So i attempted to use nero Express AND NeroVision Express, it just gives me errors.
I don’t know why it will not allow me to either join the files or burn them as a vob. I’ve tried virtually everything! The file name is..
[Anime-BT] Inuyasha Movie 4 - Fire On Mystic Island - Part I [CD3E7A86]
and
[Anime-BT] Inuyasha Movie 4 - Fire On Mystic Island - Part II [51A42DE3]
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can merge or join the files, convert it an burn it to play on my DVD player without it giving me errors? Please help im at a loss.

Now when u say merge it, u want any dvd player to play them both one after another, so they are both one big file. correct? you dont need to merge anything. just burn it all. if joining is causing you problems, eliminate that step.

what cd burning software do you have? and check the settings of it, or configuration file and makes sure that everything is set correctly. it could be a codec problem, or other things. its hard to tell. did it specifically say “Codec problem”?

I have a problem but i don’t think that it is a codec problem. All of my videos lack any type of colour. If you can help thanks.

All of your videos? Well, I am gonna have to say i think its a codec problem, because the codecs are part of the video devices. Check around on other forums to see if other people are having the same problem as you.

its funny, cause xvid didnt work for me. try winamp, and go into the options or someplace like that and change the type of files it plays. winamp works. but then again, i use linux so i dont even use any microsoft or windows stuff. u could try using real player, or quicktime. but just try to find a way to make sure that u have told the media player to play all types of video files such as avi, ogm, etc... why dont you email me back so i can help you further.

There’s something wrong here. I spent 6 hours downloading this movie after dealing with it being qued over and over again. It’s a .avi file and it won’t work no matter what I do! I tried downloading Divx, Divx converter, infranview, powerDVD, tried using WMP, tried using Xvid, Everything man, and the screen is just blank. Nothing is supporting this file. Should I make it a .mpeg? I dunno what to do, I just want to watch this movie on my monitor! Grr. Any help would be appretiated. Thanks!

Hey. Okay. Sometimes .avi isnt a standard for support in the various programs you are using to play the video. Go into options and look around to see if all of the video files are supported. If it is, then it might be a problem with ur video codecs on ur computer. email me if you need further help. Good luck
