Hi....not sure if anyone’s answered this yet. Most of you have questions about movies that you’ve downloaded, I’ve got a similar question about a game. I downloaded a game, it came in 4 files.... bin, cue, msinfo, web shortcut. I’m just wondering if I do the same thing as has been suggested with movies....burn it to dvd? Or is there anything additional/different I need to do as it’s a game? Thanks for any help.

Yes, people have already answered :P Next time, use the P2P/file-sharing forums.

The msinfo file is basically a readme - open it with notepad, and itll contain instructions, information, credits etc.
The web document is... well just that.

The .bin/.cue files are a pair. They represent the information stored on the CD. It is stored in the .bin file, along with its file structure, whilst the .cue file tells the burner how to burn. However, it is not necessary to burn. If you don’t want to bother, you can mount the image instead, so that it will behave as a normal disc. Download Daemon Tools (www.daemon-tools.cc). Install and reboot if necessary. Use the taskbar icon to set the number of virtual drives to 1, and then to mount the .cue file to that drive. Install. You’ll need a noCD crack. It may be included with the CD image (navigate there through My Computer). If not, go to www.megagames.com and download one there.

Finally, buy the game. Once you’ve ensured it runs on your system, buy it! It doesn’t cost that much, no matter what it is, and if you’re feeling particularly cheap, you could buy a legal copy off eBay. But come on wink...

the amount of posts. im not sure i fully understand that there is only the 1 question here.. the way i c it is.. dics cdr or dvdr r a cheap commodity these days.. why not simply drop ya .avi onto a cdr.. then use nero etc to make the image of the freshly burnt cd(i prefer clone cd).. may waste a disc but its quick n easy.. peronally the only time i worry about an image is if i get a new game.. movie d/ls in image form (bin and cue).. daemon tools is the go there.. virtual cd/dvdrom.. load the image up and ya dont even need to waste a cdr/dvd.. i then run the file offa daemon into mainconcept mpeg encoder.. lastly.. dvd santa.. i was using mainconcept then TMPGEnc then ulead movie factory but the beautiful thing about santa... it choses and adds its own chapter points but alas no menu anymore (plus of using ulead or TMPGEnc movie author)

It depends on the size of the discs. If you have a DVD burner, you should be fine. If not, give up now - you can’t magically lump 2 CDs' worth of data onto 1 CD.

If it’ll fit on 1 CD, or if you have a DVD burner, read on...

Download Daemon Tools (www.daemon-tools.cc). You can use it to mount more than one image at a time. Install it, and reboot if necessary. Using the taskbar icon, set the number of devices to 2, and then mount each image to a seperate drive (again using the taskbar icon). Open Nero or whatever burning software you use. Navigate to the virtual drives set up by Daemon Tools - the ones you just mounted the images to (if your HD is C:, and your DVD-burner is straight, then these will be E: and F: ).
Add all the data from one disc, and then the other. Burn.

This is slightly hit-and-miss. If its a game you’re burning, then the install may not work. It’ll probably ask you to locate a certain file usually contained in Disc 2. However, it might ask you to insert Disc 2, and it might well only recognise Disc 2 specifically, not just a disc containing the right files. Furthermore, if you need the disc to play, it probably won’t run.
If it’s a film, you shouldn’t have any problems. If the CDs were in DVD format, it might be an issue, since they will both contain “Audio_TS” and “Video_TS” folders. Otherwise, you’ll just end up with 2 video clips, which you’ll have to play seperately.

Don’t worry - you’re not a dumbass, just new wink

That’s pretty much my only suggestion. If it doesn’t work (or even if it does), buy the game. At least say here that you’ll buy the game so I don’t feel bad about it! smiley Post if you need more help.

Download Daemon Tools (www.daemon-tools.cc), and use it to mount the .cue file. To burn, you need to select the .cue file, not the .bin file.

Post if you have any further problems.

To all people who ever don’t know how to use a .bin/.cue file, this is the definitive guide, so please don’t ignore it.

What are .bin/.cue file pairs?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This pair of files forms the image of a CD or DVD - a snapshot of all the data stored on the disc. The partnership works very simply. The .bin file contains the CD information and the file structure. The .cue file contains instructions on how to read or burn the .bin; from the .bin’s file path to the beginning and ends of tracks, as well as the kind of encoding being used for the .bin (nowadays always binary - hence .bin). Since that information is always vital, we always use the .cue file for mounting or burning, and the .bin file is always slightly larger on a PC than it would be on the disc, because of the extra info it contains relating to the files.

Now, how to use them:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
1. Download Daemon Tools - www.daemon-tools.cc
2. Install, and reboot if necessary.
3. Go to the new Taskbar icon (the taskbar is the area next to the clock, at the right hand end of the Start bar. Right-click it.
4. Go to “Virtual CD/DVD ROM”, and then “Set number of devices” and then select the number of virtual drives you want to set up.
5. Go back to the taskbar icon, to “Virtual CD/DVD ROM”, find the first of the drives you’ve just set up (on a basic Windows installation - harddrive C:, disc drive straight ), this will be E:. Go to “mount image”, and navigate to the .cue file relating to CD1 of whatever you’ve downloaded. Select, and hit “Open”.
6. If you want to mount any other CD images to other drives, do so now.
7. The images you’ve mounted now work as a normal CD or DVD, so that you can watch a film, install a game etc.

In order to play a game, you’ll either need to look up the kind of copy protection the game uses (see the Games Database at www.daemon-tools.cc), and select that (under options of the Daemon Tools taskbar icon), or get a no-CD crack from www.megagames.com.

Finally, how to burn them:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
1. Download Nero Burning ROM (in trial package 1 on www.nero.com). Install; reboot if necessary.
2. Buy the software and register it. Don’t crack it - I’ll explain why at the end.
3. Open Nero StartSmart, and find the option for “copy a CD”.
4. If you haven’t already, look up the copy protection required for a game if applicable, and select it under Daemon Tools”
5. As the source of the copy, select the virtual disc whose copy protection method you just set.
6. As the destination, select the blank CD or DVD R or RW in your rewriter drive
7. Burn away.

Why not to crack small-end software like Nero
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Nero and its competition are hugely important for the continued improvement of software worldwide. As it stands currently, the software market is basically owned by large-scale, semi-monopolized companies such as Microsoft, and, as such, no progress is necessary that Microsoft and its competition doesn’t see fit. Until the smaller software companies can begin to compete with the larger ones (which they can only do through the paying support of customers), the development rate of software solutions will continue at its current rate - little above stagnant, at least compared to what it could be. However, with the money of paying customers, smaller companies such as Nero, Alcohol Soft etc. will begin to provide the good ideas and basework for better software to a wider market, and thereby force larger companies such as Microsoft to keep up - effectively kick-starting a short-term boom in software growth. After that, the consumer market will come to expect no less, and the companies will be forced to attempt to continue the increased development standard which was initially started by smaller companies who got their money from customers (hint, hint).

Right. Well that should be it, I think. Post about any further problems.

there are programs to make cue files out of bin files, and if all these bin/cue file stfu is still to hard to understand, use a program called “BIN2ISO” ithink the name says it al...
makes an .iso file out of the bin file (dont even need the cue file), and when u burn games, u should always use a virtual cdr or dvd player, such as deamon tools and/or alcohol
if it is .nrg .iso .bin or w/e....
because u should now that copy cd to cd is always the best....
hope i shared some usefull info here, + istill dont now how to make a bin file out of an .avi file, yes i saw some1 saying to use 1disk (and trow it away after) but come on. 1. there has to be a .avi 2 .bin maker program, and 2. if iwanne burn 50cds ihave to waste another 50? noway....
ionly see offtopic quistions and replys, dont like that either... the only ONtopic (good) reply was something like:
convert them to mpg/mpeg and then shrink it, then convert it to a bin file.
ithink igonna try that this weekend....
hope it will work, because ireally wanne watch my “backup” movies (nothing illegal on that smiley)
on my stand alone dvd player, and iconverted it to mpg and messed some in the settings so it would be like 700-800mb, but qaulety wasnt good (and when i say wasnt good imean icant watch it like that), anyway if there are easyer ways to do this, plz reply the process of it.

Everybody ignore what he just said - most of it didn’t make sense. To make a .bin file out of an .avi file, use UltraISO. I know the media edition will create .bins, and if the .cue isn’t automatically created, you can use Cueator, which will create .cue files for any given .bin files.

Anyway. All the best

ineedhelp — It should work fine. Remember to finalize the session, otherwise it probably won’t. Burned movies do work on most DVD players, although particularly some older ones won’t play them. It partly depends on the format of the video, too; although if it’s already a .bin, it probably came of a DVD or VCD originally. Oh and another thing - buy the film :P

WanneNowAll — Let me talk through what I just said. I didn’t say what you said was crap, I said it didn’t make sense. Here’s why:
1. It should be “WanneKnowAll”. “Now” means “at this moment”. “Know” means comprehend. You made that mistake a bit later on, too.
2. “stfu” should be “stuff”. “stfu” is short for “Shut the Fuck Up”, whilst “stuff” means matter, things etc.
3. “al” should be “all”. Whilst “Al” is a name, and “al” isn’t a word, “all” means “everything”.
4. Burning games means putting them on a CD or DVD. Therefore, mounting them to a virtual drive, using Daemon Tools (notice “Daemon”, not “Deamon”wink isn’t actually burning. That’s mounting.
4. “w/e” is usually short for “week-end”, not “whatever”, which is what I assume you meant.
5. “trow” should be “throw”; “if iwanne” should be “if I want to” (alternatively abbreviate to “wanna”wink, “noway” should be “no way”, “ionly” should be “I only”... the list goes on and I can’t be bothered.

You were also very ungracious about the fact that I answered your questions - use UltraISO to create the image of a CD. It will let you add any files - including .avi - and then save that as an image of virtually format. Anyway. I can’t be arsed - it’s all bad English.

Basically, the point is this - if there’s absolutely no point in re-posting information other people have just posted, especially in bad English - it only serves to confuse. Also, be a bit more grateful when people help you out. Other than that, your input is still welcome.
