Here’s what I did, thankyou everybody for all of your help!!

I have Windows Vista.

There are two ways to start. You can either:
-open the movie you want to edit with the WMM program.
or
-open up the WMM program and then go to Import Media, and select it, and open it up with the program that way.

NOW, here’s the important step!!!!

Drag your video(or videos) down to the bottom where there is a row a boxes called the Storyboard, edit with splitting and such there. I also split my video and saved it, and re-opened up the already split video(I wanted to cut out the beginning of the video) as its own file.

Now, you can save it as a Project if you want to, but if you’re trying to convert it, this won’t work if you want to upload it onto facebook, and also, youtube, as some of you have said. :-)

Now, on the top, go to File, then Publish Movie, it will ask how you want to save it and select On My Computer, it then converts it to a WMV file, and it is compatible for uploading on most sites.

I hope that helped, I FINALLY figured it out!! Happy Holidays everybody!! xoxo. reply

Its so sad to think that something so frustrating, actually have a really easy solution, as long as you understand what to do! :)

Ok you guys, i found the solution. Just go to publish movie and it gives you the option of different format types. (: reply

All you have to do is choose the option of burning it to a cd. Then burn it to a cd. It will be in wmv format when you are done. Then try it in another computer or open it directly from the cd with windows media player and you will see that it opens with windows media player. Save it to your computer and upload it to youtube. Took me a while to figure it out, so don’t feel bad. reply

Movie Maker CREATES wmv files as the default output.

Unless... I think this is what I think you may have done. When you ran movie maker, you clicked file, save as, which saves the project (aka the steps you used to make the movie, and links to the video clips, sound clips, and/or effects) instead of producing the movie. A movie maker project file would have extension .mswmm . The right way to produce the movie is to click on any of the options under “3. Finish Movie” (I think they all produce wmv files in one way or other - except maybe “Send to DV camera” - the best choice is probably “Save to my computer”.)

But if you record the video too long, it will stretch out to about 1-2hours :o reply

Hi,

I also had trouble. Then, I read carefully one of the instructions above. And you are very right! Thanks a lot!

Okay, it is not clearly explained.

Do you see the column on the left side? There are three sections namely: “Import," “Edit," and “Publish to." Under the “Publish to” section, you can choose any except the Digital video camera (as according to what I read above here). I chose the first option, which is “This computer." Just follow and publish. It automatically saves to wmv.

LOL! I said, “Holly cow!!!" after all that headache. It was just there all the while. I had been using “Save project as," which saves exactly the way you left it so when you go back you can edit it as you left it. And on Publish, it publishes what you had done. You cannot edit that. I recalled how I use Photoshop. It has a similar method. reply

When I clicked on the file, my Windows Media Player played the movie. But I just noticed it is on “avi." So, I converted it to “wmv” with Prism Video Converter or WinFF before I can post it on Facebook. Because Facebook only takes “wmv." reply

nutso

Whenever I do save movie file or whatever, I go through all the steps and hit finish. Suddenly everything stops and it says that I need to verify that the origin folder is still there or summit' of the like. And this evens happens if I try to save it to my desktop (By the way, I’m still on XP. Yes XP, kind of sucks).
