How to Edit MKV in Adobe Premiere

When you get file from internet, BitTorrent or others, and want to edit MKV in Premiere. Do you have any quick solution? However, Adobe Premiere now does not support MKV import. Follow me, and you will get it work. It shall only take you a few minutes.

What is MKV?
MKV is one of the file types of Matroska multimedia container. While other multimedia containers like AVI, VOB, MPEG and RM, which had been developed for a long time or not open, MKV is an open free container formats to hold numbers of video, audio, subtitles for better effect. For example, AVI was developed in early 1990s, but it does not support variable bit rate or variable frame rate for smaller file size and better animation quality.

Software requirement:
Adobe Premiere (Pro CS4, CS3, 2.0, 1.5, 1.0, Elements 8, 7, 4, or 3)
Moyea Importer for Adobe Premiere

Step-by-step guide:
Step 1. Make sure you have installed Adobe Premiere on you computer with one of the versions listed above.
If you have older version, this guide will not work. I have not tried yet. However, you may give it a try if interested.

Step 2. Download and install the import plug-in, Moyea Importer for Adobe Premiere.
One tip to get premiere work with the plug-in: Exit Adobe Premiere when you would like to install the plug-in.

Step 3. Run Adobe Premiere to import MKV file.
Well, the step 2 enables adobe premiere to support MKV file. Right click on the project window and choose “Import”, browse the MKV file and it shows up in the file browser of Adobe Premiere. Below is the pic from my pc.

I used the default “All Supported Media” so that I can import any files I want. However, you may also notice “Moyea Importer Plug-in” option from the drop-down list of the file type. Select the MKV file and it will be loaded to premiere project window.

Step 4. Edit MKV on timeline
Drag the MKV file from the project window to timeline. Drag the current-time indicator to the time point you want to split the clip, and use the Razor Tool. You can also add other files to the sequence for re-composing. reply

I think your plans are great. MOV, AVI, and WMV are the best for most of us I think, but frankly, if you’re going to be positng videos of Jayde, we’re going to figure out how to view them. Have you thought about how you’re going to accept payment? Paypal has always been a good option. Just my thoughts. Rock on guys. reply
