Converting a DVD to avi

posted in Encoding, viewed 1940 times

HI! I pretty new at all of this but, I was really hoping someone could give me advise on how you take a DVD and copy it on to your hard disk. So that you can then view and split it into segments and change the format to avi. Thanks For all your (potential) help! reply

Hi there Buffynet!! Here is a guide to rip your DVD to your HD and convert different segments to AVI.

First off, U need to download these programs:
DVD Decrypter (doom9.net) *Free*
MPEG Mediator
(http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_mpeg_mediator_188.html)*Free*
LAME MP3 Encoder
XVID Codec *Free*

First off, Open DVD Decrypter. If your wanting to rip the ENTIRE DVD to your HD, click Mode and File. If you want to rip certain chapters only, click Mode and click IFO, then select the main movie and uncheck all the chapters you dont want.

Now, Open MPEG Mediator and click open then add the VOB files u want (MPEG Mediator supports multiple if u want to convert an entire movie to AVI, just add all the VOB’s in order). Now, click Output and Set Output File and save it wherever u like, then click output again and click "Configure Plugin" and in the Audio, Scroll down and click the Lame MP3 Encoder, scroll down till u find either 44 for the sampling rate, and select 128 kB/s if there is music, if it is just talking u cant go down to 96 kB/s if u like, though i suggest just keeping 128. After that is clicked, above it u will see Video Codec Settings (or something like that) scroll down and click the Xvid and click Configure and set the video settings to whatever u like. Now press start and Convert all frames. It will be saved wherever u set the output file, hope this helps reply

If you want to simplly convert your dvd movies to avi file, you can use Handbrake which is popular and free when converting DVD movies to any audio & video like MP3, MP4,AVI, MKA,MKV etc .

But if you want toedit (Crop, Trim, Merge titles...)your DVD movies with the super quality, you could download this DVD to AVI Ripper for a free trial. reply
