It is likely a problem with either the quality of your blanks, or the format you’re trying to use (DVD+R).

DVD+R is not as well-read (compatible) on players as DVD-R, especially on older machines. Try a Verbatim DVD-R instead.

For a list of the best blanks to use, and where to find them at the best prices, see the reviews at http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm and guides at http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/index.htm

Good luck. :) reply

I am having the same issue. Have an Acer Aspire 5100 desktop w/built in dvd burner. A friend here in Indiana has been seeing a cougar (which is rare) around their home. Caught it on video. I attempted to burn a dvd from his copy but when I tried to play it on my tv (Panasonic dvd/vhs player recorder) this is what happens: THE +RW disc prompts me to 'format' the disc and THE -R disc prompts a 'this disc is not compatible' error message when attempting to play it in my player. I am sooooooooo frustrated I am ready to scream!! (giggle). I am not a highly technical person and these things drive me crazy. Can someone please assist me (in lamen’s terms.....please)I am honestly a near numb-skull when it comes to things like this (wink) and.......thanks!! p.s. This is not an old player either and panasonic states that this player will play most all formats. reply

Some DvD players won’t play the common blank DvDs you get at places like WalMart and such, you often times have to get a bit better quality if you want to “fool” all DvD players into playing your burned DvDs. reply

I created a slideshow with music for Xmas from Picassa into Windows Media Player.
I have burn it onto a Verbatin 4x DVD - RW using Windows DVD burn software.
It will not play on a TV DVD player.
Is there a simple thing to fix this - this seems like a very common problem for customers but from forums I see there are many suggested solutions - what is the simple fix reply

Received a burned DVD-R that plays in some DVD players but doesn’t in others and neither in the XBOX which normaly plays other burned DVD-R. My guess would be the quality of the disc, but i’m not sure. Would copy it to a new disc of better quality would work? If no answer today, I’ll try this tonight and let you guys know. reply

windows media player can’t burn dvds for dvd players, only for computers, they’re like data discs, you could use windows dvd maker, BE WARNED THAT IT WONT COME OUT IN WIDESCREEN, THERE ARE OPTIONS FOR 4:3 OR 16:9, BUT THEY DO NOTHING, IT IS ALWAYS 4:3! reply

Follow-up from my previous posting.
I did copy the disk to a better quality one and it’s working great in all DVD players and in the XBox.
Only had to make a regular DVD copy with Nero.

Cheap disks are financially attractive but sometimes those end-up costing you more as you could have to buy better ones to replace them. reply
