Sleepy...

I cant believe that on the ebay website for your pmp its says it can play mpg, mov, etc AND slideshows when the player can really only play three files, jpg, mp3 and asf. WOW that is dodgy... and who is complaining about the battery life... its was more then what I expected.

If you could put more games and FOLDERS that would be awesome, folders really are needed to sort out your pmp... if you figure it out your a champ!

Hey Finn, I was complaining about the battery life, which is 4-5 hours on a full charge. For an MP3 player, that’s absurd, and it’s absurd that the LCD doesn’t go into a “sleep” mode — ever.

Finn & Mits: How did you get the player to try to use a different codec?

No, it doesn’t use a different codec just the stream mapping is the same with Blaze Audio Magic and the transcoder supplied with the pmp.

If you are listening to mp3’s you can turn the screen off by holding the 'OSD' button and then it turns off, but you can still listen to music!

That works with mine but they could be different.

hey,

if you get a wmv conveter that does the same stream mapping as the pmp transcoder, and the produce a file using the same audio and video codecs and then renamed the file to an .asf extension not a .wmv would the pmp support it?

That would be awesome... i thinK.

Finn: OSD button? Could you describe where it is located on yours and what it looks like? I would love to turn off my LCD display.

Well go to this website: (thats my PMP)

http://www1.jwdigital.com/en/products_show.asp?id=262

Can you see above the speaker theres a joystick? Well above that theres the controls thingo’s. The centre button is 'OK', the left button is 'A', the right button is 'B', top button is 'ESC' and the OSD button is below the Ok button... (i imagine its stands for ON SCREEN DISPLAY). When you are playing mp3’s hold it for about 1/2 a second and the screen turns off but it still plays music... Your pmp might not be able to do this, the only way i found out was the salesman told me when i purchased it.

Hope this helps, try anybutton when playing mp3s, you might figure it out.

Go to this website:

http://www1.jwdigital.com/en/products_show.asp?id=262

See the OSD button, it is below the OK button in the middle of the circle of buttons. Try find that button on your pmp, (you may not have the same one), and hold it for 1/2 a seconds when playing mp3s.

Hope it helps...

Finn:
Thanks a billion, man. Now, due to the “Znnnng” I hear, I probably still won’t use it — and my lovely Latina (girlfriend/wife) read the review I sent my friends (her being one of them) and so she took it and used it and...figured out how to turn the LCD screen off.

I know she’s got like 20 IQ points over me, literally, but it’s disconcerting when she outsmarts me on things I’m supposedly trained in professionally, and she’s not. wink

So when I told her that “a guy online wrote that there’s a button you can turn the LCD off with” she said “Yes, is OSD."

Funny Latina. Lovely too. She can’t hear the “Znnnnng” so I’m going to load it up with Mexican mariachi and love songs and let her have it. She said it’s good for using around the house as she can hear it in any room. Good point.

So it wasn’t a waste after all — it just wasn’t my toy, it was meant to be hers.

— -

PS - I love to show her off: http://www.GamersGoneBad.com — > I used Maria to model for the Elf and Bloodrayne.

I cant beleive you didn’t use it because of the zing sound, my doesn’t emit that kind of sound...the only bad thing about the pmp is the size

Finn: The “znnnng” sound gives me a headache after a while — but also...once something is a plaything of my lovely Latina I usually like it to remain that way. She asks for so little. She, like you, can’t hear a sound and has no problems.

It might be all the ear infections I had when I was younger that makes me able to detect a noise in the first place — if it’s there. For all I know, it’s just a resonance my head can’t stand and my nerves interpret that as a sound & headache & so on. I’m a special case.

I am with the same problem. the format i need is ASF.

I record using AV in and it is fine.
VIDEO CODEC: ISO MPEG-4 Video V1
AUDIO CODEC: adpcm_ima_wav, 8kHz, stereo, 64 kb/s offset 0 ms

and the PMP was with a other VIDEO came
VIDEO CODEC: mpeg4, yuv420p, 352x240, offset 0 ms
AUDIO CODEC: adpcm_ima_wav, 8kHz, stereo, 64 kb/s offset 0 ms

can someone help me toh a step-by-step CONVERT AVI to ASF with SAME configuretion above???

thanks

For all the people who are having trouble transcoding....
Go to this website:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://www.knndigital.com/support/fandq/2005071501.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsunplus%2BPMP%2Btranscoding%26start%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN

Download the ASF transcoder, install it. Then open it up and click on media mode- select your quality... then select and input (the avi file) and the output (the ASF file). Then click on convert, it should only take a few minutes. Then load it onto your pmp in this directory:
X is the drive it uses
X:\DCIM\100MEDIA\*.asf

HOPE THAT HELPS!

Finn, when I got my PMP I was smart enough to take pictures of it from every angle, including the AC Power Supply where it shows its specifications:

http://img306.imageshack.us/img306/4095/pmpacpower4de.jpg

As for “Greater than 1 gig SD cards” — all I know is they won’t read. I doubt that it would nuke the card or the PMP.
