TwilightWannabepitmanj have not use DvdX2.2 in a long time, do you mean it overwrites the origial or keeps it? it ask you where you wish to save it to, that why you need 2hd when converting.
The video quality was set to NORMAL not BEST or BAD.,

a couple of things really, ive been trying to get ffmpeg to work but i cant for some reason, it complains about pthreadGC2.dll? how are you using ffmpeg?
also ive had some success in playing files which ive converted to mpeg 4 using the “super” convertor, however when i convert to asf it framerate drops, i dont know how to keep it high.
also ive analysed the file that comes from the sunplus tool, and i think youve got it backwards, try uping the bitrate to this number 4294059 sounds crazy i know, but thats what the file sunplus uses if your interested how i know, download AVIcodec, very good at looking at files etc.
so far this is the best file ive got working on there
Video : 1.13 MB, 351 Kbps, 10.370 fps, 352*240 (4:3), DIVX = DivX Codec 4.12, Supported
Audio : 4.94 MB, 1536 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x1 = PCM, Supported
and what it needs (ie the sunplus version) is
Video : 3.99 GB, 4294059 Kbps, 16.130 fps, 352*240 (4:3), DIVX = DIVX4, Supported
Audio : 4.21 MB, 1536 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x1 = PCMS16LE, Supported
god i wish i knew how they encoded there files. i think im gonna try and reverse engineer the code, it must be written in C or something.
cheers
good luck
I still have issue’s with breaking video, no matter which methods I’ve tried Alec. I can use the FFDShow from VirtualDub (had to go all the way back to version ffdshow-20040725 since they broke libav encoding at some point past that, but that version will work in Vdub) or ffmpeg with the lines I tried before.
As to your issue’s with ffmpeg, sad to say it, but there are so many builds of that thing (and all slightly different) that you just keep trying them until you get a working version.
As to your file info, you have the older version of the Sunplus PMP convertor, the newer one saves the audio to IMA_ADPCM (slightly smaller). The only “truly” reliable method I have found for making good video files for this thing is to transcode with Vdub to a format that Sunplus can accept then transcode it again. Very annoying, but it does allow you to properly resize +smooth and blur so you get rid of the terrible amount of macroblocking that Sunplus' software does.

for Lesnar_mk
your program is VERY VERY VERY GOOD!!!!
for video presets no one problem, i use 300kbits rate and it work wery well!!!!
For video preset, it is very strange...
The lowest AUDIO SAMPLE RATE that i mast to use, is 8000hz for my mp4 sunplus player, bat the encoder use 256kbits rate, too much big....
YOUR mp4 converter: PCM16LE, 8000 Hz, 256kb/s
SUNPLUS CONVERTER: IMA_ADPCM, 8000 Hz, 64kb/s
Is it possible for you change in your program the settings for audio encoder?
Please help me!!!!!
Thanks a lot MAX.

These things aren’t really sendable by email due to the inbox size limitations of most people.
But here is the link I used to get the chinese version of a Sunplus converter that DOES save to the smaller audio format
http://www.knndigital.com/download/k911/knn_rm_asf.zip
I don’t take credit for finding this, it was listed in an earlier post from this forum.

BTW...
On a side note, I suppose I should detail exactly how I’m converting files for use on my Riproar PMP. The tools I’m useing are the Sunplus PMP converter found at http://www.knndigital.com/download/k911/knn_rm_asf.zip , VirtualDub Mod (any version works) , FFDShow version ffdshow-20040725 (from Sourceforge) and as needed DVD Decrypter (Google for it, it’s no longer available from it’s author).
Let’s say I’m converting a DVD for use on my player (I have a 1 gig SD card on top of the 512 that’s built in). Rip to the hardrive with whatever you want (DVD Decrypter in my case), then I use VdubMod to deinterlace (built in) and resize to 320X240 (built in as well, I use Lancos3 for the resize method) no change to the audio, but for compression I choose “ffdshow Video Codec” and then select HuffYUV (default settings) as the compression method. HuffYUV is lossless so the avi will be huge, but won’t give you compression artifacts from reencoding twice (or more times).
You can batch all the vobs and run them at once if you wish in Vdub, or do them one at a time. You can also edit them into smaller “chapters” if that’s what you prefer.
All that’s left is the encoding (one at a time sadly) with Sunplus PMP converter to get your finished files. The version I use at least lets me name them, so I can copy them directly into the folders I wish.
On the player side, I’ve added folders under the DCIM folder that are sequenced from the normal one 100MEDIA (ie: 101MEDIA, 102MEDIA) so I can change “chapters” on my movie with the up and down buttons, since the thing has no real seek function.
I can easily get a normal DVD movie onto the 1 gig SD card, so this method works fairly well for me.
If you have any questions or suggestions, ask or post them.

1)why do you deinterlace?
2)I have converted a vob file in Sunplus PMP converter
and it resized it to 352x240 do you know
why? I have Sunplus v 0.510 date 2005-7-19 that is the
one i use. The one from WWW.Knndigital.com is
v o.41 date 2005-4-28. Have not converterd a file in that
one as yet. Converted a file from Divx into PMP converter
that was good, use a 2gd SD Card.
3)Why do you go though all of that work for Quality or
file size or both.

one as yet. Converted a file from Divx into PMP converter
that was good, use a 2gd SD Card.
3)Why do you go though all of that work for Quality or
file size or both.
1) The deinterlace is fairly standard (though not always needed) because a lot of what I convert is ATSC Digital TV and a few of the channels I get are always interlaced 1080i. I turn it on or off depending on what source I’m using. Since I’m normally doing a massive downsize it’s not alway “needed” but I want my source as pristine as possible before I recode things.
2) Just one of the wonderful “standard” settings that Sunplus chose “for” you. The specific reason it’s 352X240 is that a DVD is in reality a 704X480 frame size (though it will say 720X480). So Sunplus is using the fairly fast 1/2 reduction and that’s the size you get. In my case, my players screensize is exactly 320X240, so I use Vdub to get that size, instead of having 32 pixels chopped off when playing.
3) A bit of both. I want the equivilant of chapters, which Sunplus can’t do, so I manually cut the file into smaller chunks. Also, if you give Sunplus converter a file that is waaay to big, it will convert to WMV then convert again to the ASF which looks extremely bad. Since Vdub can load the whole movie at once (or whatever I’ve recorded) with AVISynth, I can just set Vdub to split at any “chunk” size I wish and get my “chapters” that way. It wastes a lot of time to do this (hence why many of us would like a smarter alternative than Sunplus Converter) but I run these Vdub sessions when I’m at work, so I’m not concerned how long it takes the machine at home to do it.
2) On a side note, I use the converter from Knn simply because it outputs the IMA ADPCM audio which is much smaller than the version that came with my player which doesn’t.
My reason for all of this is because I can’t really control the output I’ll get from the Sunplus Converter. So I do any smoothing, bluring, editing, ectera in Vdub first and then pass the files to Sunplus. It’s the only method that “works” that I have available to me to do even simple tasks like remove commercials, since you get no “features” in the software that comes with the players. All of this would be a non issue if we could get a better endcoder that had some features, but so far I haven’t found one that works properly with the player and has things I need like an editor built in.
