Problem: Windows Media Player does not support .mov files.
Fact: There would be no need to convert any video file to .wmv if windows media player just suporterd .avi, .mp4 or .mov files.
Solution: If I were a PC user, I would dump Windows Media Player for RealPlayer (actually I would dump my PC for a mac, oh wait... I did that when I was twelve). RealPlayer is a cross-platform app that will run all the standard video and audio file formats plus it supports streaming feeds. And all without the time-consuming conversion process. Try that out until you finally admit that you’ve been wasting your time on a Windows-based system.
how can I make my burner burn movies that I take with my Kodak Z760 and be able to watch them on my tv
ah ha..this is my problem as well.. my videos are in quicktime format..
but the QT plugin doesn’t work with QT 7 and later.. what do I do now? uninstall and get an older version? gah...
Joe Santsingh wrote: Message 1 to John with kodak easy share: Use Mpeg Streamclip (Open Source software) to convert your footage to avi or mpeg 4 format and powerpoint should read it. Read the blurb in Streamclip’s FAQ about using QuickTime alternative when you download streamclip. It suggests also downloading a program called QT Alternative instead of Apple’s QuickTime. This allows Streamclip to read the QT format. FYI, mpeg 4 will make the file size nice and small. while (uncompressed) avi will/could make file size significantly bigger.. But both avi and mpeg4 will work fine in PowerPoint - I have done it many times. My preference is mpeg 4 for everyday runof the mill powerpoint where you dont need full screen footage.
Message 2 to TUDA: Use Mpeg Stramclip to convert footage to either DV file or avi file and moviemaker will be able to import it. TUDA, like I said in the above message to John with Kodak easy Share, read the blurb in Streamclip FAQ about using QT Alternative.
Hope this helps. I am in the education sector and I find this program very handy when converting our Kodak camera’s mov files for importing into PowerPoint presentations. Its Open Source and so its free!!![]()
Cheers
Okay, I know you hate the same question twice however, this is a little different? ;o) I do not understand all the options given in the “change," I mean I’m familiar with resolution but only as far as my computer screen and the rest of the selections are all “mambo jumbo” to me! In addition, I’m glad someone asked them mentioned s/he had a Kodak EasyShare (although, I cannot wait to get a new & different camera!!!) But I do not understand what you’re talking about when you say “blurb” about Quicktime Alternative. I did read, okay, well skimmed, the documents that came with the MPEG Streamclip download but I’m still a little lost on this. I know if I play around a little I can figure it out (and if I find the time lol) therefore, I was just hoping a little bit of my confussion will seem clear to anyone/someone for help.
Weird thing is, this went through some type of “preview” first then changed the file, and until I learn different, seems you can only change these files to .mp4
is quicktime compatible with firefox browser?

Popwire’s WMV 9 Export Component. really works
Michaelsdfsdfsdf wrote: I’m sorry, but in every experience with Quicktime, I really think it is a horrible player and it should be banned from the world. As much as all of you MAC people hate Microsoft, Windows, and the player they make...it is ultimately better.
Especially since the “free” version of quicktime doesnt let you do the one thing that it might acuallt be useful for plus it sucks and Steve Jobs in an incompetent moron and if it wasnt for the iPod Apple would have tanked by now, seriously thats really all they got and theres no denying it.

I make videos for a living and love the flexibility of QT. Nobody, in my experience, in the industry ever uses WMV except when sending files to office monkeys to check stuff on their PCs. WMV is great for just that – cheap and cheerful desktop stuff. However, MPEGs are the daddy and ultimately we always export our QT files to MPEG for broadcast. We would never entertain the idea of using WMV for broadcast as the quality is just so low. WMVs are great for what they were designed for; low quality files which are fast to up/download from the net. Just chill out and use what you’re happy with.
The original question was about a free converter. I just searched on Google for “free quicktime to wmv converter for PDA” and got 84,400 results! That could be a good place to start looking. Good luck!
Queue the inevitable flames...
Congratulations, you have posted a response that provides no help and obviously wmv s are better for internet vids, but hey its not like the internet is some sort of important tool for sharing information and personal creations because hey its still the 80s

Anyone Know about editing movies on the PC, players like Windows Movie Maker seem great, but I’m having some problems for some reason, litte quriks or bugs, I’ve got adobe premiere but still theres some problem in handling large files on a freaking pc with only 256mb ram, should be enough but, Unfortunately it’s not. Okay So Say I want to import a Quicktime Mov into premeire, edit it and export as an MPEG, I hope I can do that without a problem, will youtube accept Quicktime mov as a format for the FLV/whatever it uses? Okay you twerps answer NOW or be raped on every video game there is.
By the way if you want a fake apple iphone clone, or a p168 + or any apple iclone let me know, I’m a dealer and I buy from HongKong at luxurydropshipper.com that I buy from directly and I’ve been getting a lot of money from ebay doing that. SPAM RULES. now answer my question about the QUicktime DAN before I come manhandle your wife.
So...just tell me, WHAT do I have to download when 'Windows Media Player' tells me it can’t open files with MOV. ??

This is exactly what you need! I had the same problem and its FREE!

1) For those types of problems,
head for a codec pack.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm
I chose the k-lite codec pack. 1 player for a wide array of media file types. .mov and .wmv included!
Media player classic - Home cinema and no problems with either of the formats.
2) As for the converters, try super by erightsoft
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/dawnload.cfm?mirror_id=0&version_id=12525&software_id=761
For quality stay with the .mp4 codec and the .avi format.
3) As for video editors, I’m using Virtualdubmod
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.8.6.zip?download
Every program I’ve stated here is freeware, so you’re only using up your time instead of your money.
Also, everything here is supported by: win98/Win ME/Win NT/ Win XP/Win Vista.
So, three questions answered, links given (Http://).

The problem with RealPlayer on a PC is that it’s bloatware and adware. It used to totally hijaak your system and make ungodly settings changes, but users screamed and finally they toned it down (but watch carefully during install so you don’t answer a question YES by default).
Anyway, I just tested RealPlayer with an MP4 file and guess what it did? It didn’t play it. It loaded the QT plug-in to play it in a window. What good is that? I have QT.
So no, RP isn’t the answer to everything. The closest answer to a universal player I’ve found is MPC. Simple, clean, no-install freeware — and no ads or bloat.

By “MPC”, I meant Media Player Classic (Home Cinema). Google search for it.
Im making a movie for a school project. One of the requirements is to make it on Windows Movie Maker, and i can’t with my Quicktime Videos. Any free suggestions for a very confused friend?
