PROBLEM SOLVED!! Thanks!! (see prev poster)
ISSUE- cannot play mpeg in wmm.. all it does is play the audio..
SOLUTION- drop clip in “STORYBOARD” and not on “TIMELINE”.
once I dropped on storyboard and went back to timeline view, it played properly.
Was able to continue editing...
again.. MUCHO THANKS!
The Goozzz, Your solution worked perfectly for me! I have spent HOURS trying to make this work. Thanks for posting your solution!!!
I was having the same problems with importing MPEGs into WMM. Following the advice of this forum, I downloaded the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, which didn’t actually work. It enabled me to import MPEGs into WMM, but they would only play as audio files, the images wouldn’t come up.
What HAS worked is using the StreamClip program, which allowed me to open the MPEG file, and then convert it to AVI, by clicking on the 'export to AVI' tab. The AVI file can then be opened in WMM.
StreamClip is great - you can edit and cut your videos, which I highly recommend. Exporting MPEGs to AVI can take a really long time (up to 15 mins or so) so I suggest cutting cutting your video down to the clip you want before converting to AVI.
Do it! Its less complicated than it sounds....
cccp solved my no-mpeg-coded problem with Windows MovieMaker. Thanks hannahcacao

There is a very simple and even more stupid solution for Davids problem ... Don’t drop your movieclip in the timeline, but drop it in the storyboard and switch back to the timeline.

I had exactly the same issue where movie maker was working fine for months importing my mpg files created by Gigapocket - but after I upgraded to Player 9 - movie maker began complaining that it ocld not import the file yet I could play it on mplayer
I can import the file OK but it only drops into the timeline as an audio file - so something had changed recently with the software.
rofl thanks
The problem is not the fault of all the variables. Microsoft, with all of it’s money and power should unleash us from the stupidity pendulum.
If you want a toothpick, you must invent dirt. So you can plant a seed, let the tree grow, forge steel, build a saw, chop down the tree, forge more steel, invent a knife, whittle the tree down to a toothpick. Problem solved.
