No audio in video editing software but works in WMP10

I have several home videos recorded on a Sony DVD camcorder which I have transferred to my PC via USB. When I open these in windows media player I get audio working, but when trying to edit those same mpegs within Cyberlink or Ulead DVDmoviefactory I get no sound at all. Have I got some sort of codec problem?
