well i might be able to help you with the winavi burning prob, i always get errors when i try burning using winavi, so i use it to convert the files then i use DVDshrink to re-author my own dvd, and this way you can fit like 3-5 movies on one 4.7gb dvd-r

well, I downloaded DVDShrink but what I want is to convert a mpeg file to a vob file so i can make a DVD with nero (nero only accepts a .vob file for this). Does DVDShrink really convert mpeg files to vob? If it does, how does it make it?

Thank you.

How to convert mpeg to vob
Easiest way that works is using NeroVision Express (not Nero Express) comes free with many burners, plus the Nero mpeg2 recoding dll (buy from Nero or obtain elsewhere). Build the DVD using your mpegs with the simple interface, then shrink/reauthor if necessary with DVDShrink. Bit slow though

Alternatively Cucusoft avi-vcd.com have a freeware mpeg to vob converter, but so far I havent got it to work correctly. I keep getting empty vobs. They have other products to buy which I havent tried yet but seem to get high ratings. Any sucess with these let me know.

You could also try Pinnacle, Ulead, Arcsoft etc for more fiddly DVD authoring.
PS the fastest simplest mpeg2 (and most formats)editor is from Womble.com Trial available
Fastest free mpeg1 VCD editor is VCDCutter

To convert just about any media file to DVD, I use VSO DivxToDVD. You can download a trial version @:

I have tried with CUCUSOFT converting mpeg files to vob. Everything is ok.But on the top portion pixelisation-like distortion produced.Though we have set the normal bitrate, if the file is for shorter duration, output file is produced with high bitrate - some times more than 13MB/sec.

So, better try with NERO7 ultra. Excellent features, performances.Always use Nero express or Nero vision and NOT Nero burning rom.Simply you have to input/add mpeg files and select the output format and size.Any input to any output. Its your choice.Everything is done automatically.

Only earlier sony DVD writers were provided with this high-end software and now they offer only basic software. You can easily get one. There are ways.

I have downloaded the latest NERO 7 ULTRA ENHANCED trial version from their site (sept release) and everything is FINE.

I have exactly the same problem with Cucusoft MPEG to VOB convert as wacket. I generates 0-byte VOBs. Useless! And I’ve got nowhere near the results Ramli7 Chennai is getting.

Naraku, you got it working, what is your pc spec/setup like?

Share a good video converter
It can convert among AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, WMV, DivX, XviD, MPEG-1/2, 3GP, 3G2, VOB and HD Video (TS, MTS, M2TS), MP3, AAC, and AC3 Audio etc

You can download here:
http://www.bigbigsoft.com/posts/article/id/video-converter-ultimate
here is how to use it:
Step 1: Click the “Add File” button to load your video
Step 2: Select the output profile(VOB)
Step 3: Output Video settions.
You can cut a clip of your video by using its “Trim” function
You can merge a few videos into one file by clicking “merge into one file”
You can crop the black edge of your video to adjust your video to your iPod screen to get the best view.
Step 4: Click the “Convert” button to sart the conversion.

Enjoy!
