Hello I have an identical sound and video file. They are in m2v for video and aiff in audio. I want to merge them together into 1 format. Perferable into mov or mpeg2. What is the best method on a MAc OS 10 intel that could do this? I dont want to have to reburn and re-rip.

Convert the audioto MPEG 1 audio layer 2(mp2) using Belight.

Then you can use TMPGEnc Plus(File/MPEG tools/Simple Multiplex) to combine the m2v and mp2 to an MPEG 2 file.

I’m not sure if there are versions of the mentioned software for Mac OSX as I myself am on Windows XP SP2/Linux.

You need an audio encoder/converter & a Video Encoder/Converter:

You can try MPEG StreamClip for Mac OS. http://www.squared5.com/
It’s freeware and seems rather versatile. I don’t have a Mac so I can’t test it, but I trust from the description it should work.

I’m surprised! The MPEG StreamClip page said aiff was supported as an input format!
Just to clarify: Death666’s idea of converting the audio stream to MPEG-1 audio (layer 1 or 2 doesn’t matter) first before multiplexing (combining audio and video streams) is a good idea. If you haven’t tried it first, see if you can convert the aiff to mpeg audio first, then multiplex.
If that still doesn’t work you’ll have to look for something that converts aiff to a format MPEG StreamClip can read. That can be either MPEG audio, wav, or something else.
Playing with audio files on my PC I see QuickTime Pro can read aiff and convert it to various audio formats (including wav, but not MPEG audio... go figure). I’ll keep googling to see if I can find freeware Mac aiff converters.

According to this page you can use iTune to convert aiff to mp3. You could give that a shot.

That’s why I only had the one link.

It was used for both, audio and video conversion.

Same program.

Best go for MP2. for audio conversion.

Maybe this:

I have the same problem. Have any of the proposed solutions worked??

Use MPEG Streamclip as suggested above. It works. You open your .m2v file. Streamclip automatically finds the .aiff audio file to go with it. Do a simple “save as” and it will be saved as an .mpeg fie.

Sorry, mistyped it, I meant not a “save as” but a “convert to MPEG with MP2 audio”.
