converting virtual clonedrive file to avi?

while reading this, keep in mind that i’m not incredibly computer literate...

i have downloaded a file that is approximately 804MB that i wish to put on a video CD using the program Nero startsmart. For some reason, the only blank cds available where i live are 700 MB so i need to split the file into 2 smaller chunks. The file plays in a program i use called PowerDVD.
Is there any way that i can convert this file into an avi file so i can use an avi splitter or is there another way to go about this?
i attempted splitting it with winRAR but i had no success when i tried to put the files onto a VCD.
