Are there any programs that enable you to convert .rmvb files to .avi using mac. I am aware of quite a few programs that provide this on windows but have yet to find one for mac osx , any help would be appreciated.

Use ffmpegX. If you run into problems with the .rmvb file format, just change it to .rm and away you go!

it supports converting from rmvb to avi for Mac users.

i tried this and it tells me that .rmvb files are not supported by this program. i also tried the aimersoft application as well with the same results. when i use ffmpeg it freezes up whenever i drag my file into te box. any suggestions?

Download the FREE Realplayer application:

http://www.real.com/mac/realplayer

Right click on the RealPlayer.app you downloaded and select “Show package contents”

Copy the folder “Plugins” in the application bundle:
/Contents/Frameworks/HXClientKit.framework/HelixPlugins/

To Here:
/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/

Now rename the “Plugins” folder to “reallib”

i wonder why people come up with such solutions (im talking about arcani) without first trying them themselves. I mean by seeing that, i was sure it will work, coz it looked like a tested tweak... its not some kind of suggestion for a program or something, it looks like the guy that suggested it have done it... but its just ballz

I have personally done the adding the real player codec to the ffmpeg directory as suggested and it works for me every time. sometimes I have to convert to an .avi file before going all the way to dvd but ffmpeg is the only software I’ve been able to successfully do the conversion with.

Absolutely great!!!! I’ve been waiting for this. I did try ff before but for some reasons, it didn’t work, perhaps the updated codecs now works better and now a great conversion tool!

This has never worked for me. ffmpegx always hangs whenever I try to drop a file into the “from” area of the app. Is there any solution for this problem?

Man, the recommended video converter can convert all popular video to each other on Mac OS, of course, including rmvb to to avi. grin
