I have an OS X computer (G4) with preinstalled QuickTime Player 7.0.4. I shoot small videos using Nikon coolpix camera that are stored as .mov files. I wish to show them to others using a DVD player that can also play DivX. It seems all the freely available converters are meant for Windows OS. Can anyone help me to convert .mov to any formats that can be used to burn DVD/CD.
Thanks alot.

Roxio Toast or iDVD will import your mov files and burn them as DVDs. but as to how effective they will look is another matter. What is the dimensions your camera shoots mov files in? A lot of them only do 320x240 some do 640x480.
Have you tried the free Div X video Bundle for Mac? It may be what u r after. Post back to the forum if it does the job u r after.
Cheers

I have a Mac, and I need to convert .MOV files into something viewable on a Windows. Anyone have any better suggestions than the previous Mac Converter post? It didn’t work for me.
Help!!! My problem goes like this: I just found a site where I downloaded some movies, the only problem is that they are rar files and now I dont know what program I can use so that I can open them and burn them to my DVD’s so I can watch them in my room. So if you have any info on how I can go about doing this, I would very much appreciate it
Hi GraFF
Try downloading Mpeg Streamclip and in it save it as an mpeg4. Windows Media Player will play mpeg 4 files no probs. Streamclip allows you to change the resolution size of your file as well. eg 640 x 480 0r 320 x 240 etc etc to suit your needs.
Good luck - hope it works for you. Post back to the forum re-your success so others may also know if it works.
Kind wishes
joe
Try MPEG Streamclip an open source application available for Mac and Windows.
Check out the blurb on their website on the URL. I use it often and find it brilliant.

Hi,
Alive Video Converter can help you.
http://www.alivemedia.net/videoconverter.htm
try to use avs-video-converter.html" rel="nofollow" target="_new">AVS Video Converter
It supports virtually all video formats:
- Video: AVI, DivX, XviD (*.avi, *.divx, *.div), MPEG-4, H.264 (*.mp4, *.m4v), MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (*.mpeg, *.mpg, *.m1v, *.m2v, *.dat, *.mpe), DVD (*.ifo, *.vob, *.vro), DV AVI (*.avi, *.dv, *.dif), Quick Time (*.mov, *.qt), WMV, WMV-HD (*.wmv, *.asf), 3GPP, H.263 (*.3gp, *.3g2, *.3gpp, *.3gp2), Real Video (*.rm, *.rmvb), SWF (*.swf), DVR-MS (*.dvr-ms).
Ive just encountered the same problem and while going thru many programs found one that works. The problem with WinAVI and a few others is that they put a tag on ur videos unless u buy the full version. I use ImTOO Mov Converter it is free and puts no tags on your movies. Hope this helps.
P.S Try to google it if u want to use that converter
what is a free program to convert .mov files to .avi or .mpg that is easy?
i have the same problem! i try to use windows movie maker to make movies..but when i click, “Upload video” it says “The file is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker." It’s a qucktime file type, and I need to change it to a WMV. or whaever the windows video type is! this has been frustrating me for quite some time! please help!
Can I get a version of QT Reader for a Mac computer? Or is there a workaround anywhere? thanks
I have received a cd from our penpals in the States and i can’t open it.The files name end in MOV.Does anybody know how to open it?
To barry lane and janem:
Downlaod QuickTime Player from Apple. It is a free download. It will solve your problem. I you want to save it as anolther file type get QuickTime Pro (US $20)
Alternatively get MPEG Streamclip which is free
To jenna
Basically you need to convert your mov to an avi which will make it WMV friendly You need to get either QT Pro (US$20) from the Apple website or MPEG Streamclip.
(QT Pro allows you to convert filetype from one to another while QT Player will only play a particular file type and doesnt allow you to change file type)
MPEG Streamclip is totally open source and free and is available for Mac and Windows platforms. It is often likened to the Swiss Army knife of video codecs as it allows you to convert from one filetype to another.
I use both regularly and have no hesitation in recommending either (or both!)
