AggieMaeEntreeI have a Kodak digi cam that takes video with sound. I downloaded a file converter because I want to edit my videos but the converter won’t even open my video files.
How and what can I use to convert these MOV files to mpeg or avi so I can use them with an editing software. I’m new to all this but am very interested and would appreciate any help or resource info anyone can share with me.
Thanks!

Not like this:
(1st post) I have a problem!
(2nd post) Well, what encoding software are you using?, what codec or container are you trying to go to/from? What model of equipment are you using?
What have you tried so far and what are any error messages are you recieving?
(3rd post) Let me check....
(4th post) I’ll wait here....
(5th post) I have such and such equipment, this software...etc
(6th post) Answer — - 3 weeks later
People like myself want to provide answers, not ask more questions.

For editing/copying/merging quicktime movies quicktime pro would be the best solution, but it costs 30 dollars. If you’re cheap you can always use rad video tools (free) to convert your quicktime movies into avi’s and then edit the avi’s using virtualdub.

same as above, with the addition that to convert into mpeg you can use tmpgenc (the free version is at tmpgenc.net). Then google for QTReader.zip or QTReader.vfp (that’s the quicktime plugin). Move the vfp file into the same [folder you unzipped tmpgenc into] and now it can read quicktime movies for conversion into mpeg.

hi, have you ever tried WinAVI Video Converter http://www.winavi.com/video-converter, which is one of the best converters in my opinion. Actually, WinAVI Video Converter can support almost all video format. Most of all, the converting speed is surprisingly fast while with stunning video and audio quality.

cityboyEntreeI have a problem....I have recently downloaded a few movies and some of them have the actual movie file ready to watch but some of them are .rar files!? Now I have downloaded games before and am familiar with WinRAR and then loading onto Daemon Tools to PLAY...but I am at a loss as to what to do here...can someone help me?

City, When you extract them with Winrar a vid file should come out. If a .CUE and .BIN pops up they are meant to be burned to disk. If that’s the case you can load the .cue into Daemon like you did the other’s.

The answer to your question is simple, download “River past video cleaner” and you can quickly and easily code a .mov file into a .avi or .mpg or .swf (anything)! This is the ONLY Program that I use and I think you should do the same
/enjoy!

I have used the winavi video converter but there is definate loss of quality in the pictures (looks like pixilation). I’m using the free version on the “all to avi” option but am very dissapointed with the results. Are there better options or am I missing something?

The Tsunami MPEG Encoder will convert .mov files. I do it all the time, but it requires a very small plugin to do it...I can’t remember exactly where I got it from but I do remember that I heard about it on the Screensavers show on Techtv. That was before they were bought out by the G4 Network. I don’t know just exactly what the site is like now or if you’ll be able to search their show notes that far back to find it. I’ll post a link to the zip file that I keep so that when I have to reinstall tmpegenc, I have it on hand. First you have to install the program that you get from here http://www.tmpg-inc.com/ it’s free, though they do have a pay version, but it’s only advantage is that you have full MPEG 2 use...with the free version you can make all the mpeg 2 files you want for a month but it’s disabled after that. This link is only good for seven days or 25 downloads, which ever comes first. http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3JX8BSCFBQNPA03ODVGQBUTPZX From there you just unzip that qtreader file and copy it into the programs folder and from that point it will read and convert .mov files

Today I got a disk in the mail from a friend of mine in another country containing pictures and movies.
The movies are in .MOV format - obviously that’s what her camera saves them as, and they play alright on QuickTime.
But for some reason there is no sound on them which is really disappointing. She told me that her camera recorded sound.
Is this something to do with the format they are in? Any ideas on what’s gone wrong here and if converting the files would help any?
Thanks very much.
