Hey there.
Just so happens I have the same camera and the same problem. In fact, I stumbled on your query after doing a Google search on this very issue. (I’m looking for a conversion tool myself.)
My preliminary findings suggest you need Quicktime Pro to handle the conversion. (You may know that the .mov format is QuickTime’s native format.) The good news is that QuickTime Pro costs only $29.99, so even though it’s not freeware it isn’t a budget buster, either.
Here’s a link that explains how to do the conversion under QuickTime Pro. Looks like it might be a little hairy:

Good luck!

Smith27 Guest | In the same boat, have a Canon with HD video in .MOV format.
tried RadTools and it just didn’t work right no matter what i did, finally got it to “sort of work” but video color was way of and chopped up.
Uninstalled ,and tried ConvertMOVtoAVI.
Worked great, BUT the MPEG4 format is not recognized by Windows Movie maker. tried Divx, DVD and VCD options and it was a no go as well. tried the last one, Xvid and it worked!
Minimal to no loss in video quality and MM imported it fine.
If radtools won’t work right, try ConvertMOVtoAVI instead.
Not sure if it requires an additional codec or not, if so, i must have installed it some time ago, but all i know is it works, since like others, i have a camera that comes with useless software for editing in Windows.

You may have to reencode it. Just pick your favorite codec. (It should have the option when you convert to avi - look at your options - there should be other options than uncompressed)
I am not familiar with any of these. Which is best?

Hey there....I found a solution to our problem that doesn’t cost a penny! You have to download RadTools(Bink-Smacker). It works great and its totally free. Here’s the website for you...good luck!

Once you download the program, select a file and chose 'Convert a File' in the lower left corner. Then choose the output type (for windows media player you need AVI). Make sure to check the bottom box to 'Convert Audio', otherwise the video will not have the sound. Then click 'convert file'.
Hi,
I did as you said and download the program but now i have a problem of not knowing how to convert it. I open the video with quick time and real player but i don’t see any button that say covert video. Can any one help me?

Now... how to figure out how to get my Canon camera to stop going in and out of focus on still objects... ah that can wait for another day, in a good mood now. Thanks again!
