(Modified and Spell checked version of my rant)

I have a Kodak C633 digital still camera with a movie setting, common on a lot of digital still cameras nowadays. And, I too, wish to utilize this function for making neat little videos to share with friends and colleagues. However, Kodak for some reason saw fit to use MOV as the file type which, or course, is NOT compatible with Windows media player because MOV is basically Apple. How nice. These people are not complete idiots, just greedy and otherwise sort of tech-dolts. This reminds me of other stupid format wars we always pay for: Beta vs. VHS and Bitmap vs. JPG. So, now its MOV vs. AVI? Sooo sily and greedy.

A word on “Free” Video Converter downloads: First off, they are not free. They either contain tons of junk Adware files that pollute your hard drive, have time truncated use features, are limited life use (usually about a year before you have to pay again), pop-ups, downloadable only, with no hard copy CD available, limited file types, no help line, no contact phone number, or all of the above. These software/cyberware critters are basically digital bandits who actually don’t sell you anything. They just sort of half-assed lease it to you for about a year and charge you again. Have you noticed that these kids, I guess, think this is the sharp way to do business, so the herd mentality takes over, and like sheep, they all do it. Who’s kidding who here? You cannot find a video converter CD in any store that I am aware of but maybe Best Buy. And their version is crap for $49.95.

Not knowing anything about these so called “freeware” file conversion programs or “Video converters," I blindly downloaded a couple and learned my lesson. I am still removing tracking and other gear files from my hard drive. It is sad that bald faced lying has become a part of the American way of doing business. I am sooo weary of crooks.

If someone actually knows of a truly Free video converter program that will compress and convert MOV to AVI, please let me know. Thanks, Gere

I have the same problem, only there are a few diffrences.
I am doing a project thats due towmarrow.
I planned on using my camera that lasted until the batteries ran out. I was forced to use my parents camrea, but I need to convert the files that came from that camra now, and I can’t use any of the downloads beacuase my parents would have to check them out (their computer) and it late and I don’t have the time.
Please can someone help me? I tried everything I know how to.

I use Riva FLV Encoder. It’s originally intended for flash videos, but it will work to convert any type of video to any other type of video. I use it to convert my .mov Easy Share videos to .mpg videos for use is Movie Maker and to play in Media Player. PLUS, it’s free!

Try mpeg streamclip. It’s free and it works really well for windows or for mac. You can download it here http://www.squared5.com/
Only snag is this...
The first time you try to use it, it will probably ask u to delete ur quicktime and reinstall the version 1.81. After you do this (again, free), you can upgrade quicktime to the appropriate version.

I tried that rad site, and i put my .mov file in, hit the convert button in the left. Selected avi as the output file, then hit convert. It came out all choppy and not smooth at all. Not to mention it killed all sound I had. I don’t really care about the sound, except its a snowboarding video, so it can’t be choppy. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?

I downloaded the RAD tools link above and converted video successfully. However, the audio didn’t convert with it. I’m unsure what opttions to check other than the box to 'convert audio' (input options? convert formats? Override formats??

For those who have 'audio, but no video' problem with MP4Cam2AVI:
- If it’s h.264 video, there’s a bug, it’s fixed, new version 2.82 will be available at sf.net in a week. Now we test it on russian forum.
- In at least 50% cases it’s a codec problem, install the latest freeware FFDShow (you won’t need other codecs with it)
- Of you want to test new version, send me request to graywolf2004@mail.ru, I’ll send you pre-release
