Hey guys...I just bought a JVC GZ-MG330 Hard Drive Camcorder. I uploaded my files to my computer and they came out as .mod files. I am able to play them in media player but the sound is gone. I changed the file extensions manually to mpeg and others but still no sound. If I play from the camera straight to my TV the sound is there...any help to get the sound on my computer would be greatly appreciated.
Simply renaming the files used to work for me but I’m one of the unfortunate ones to be working on a Vista machine now and renaming them doesn’t work anymore. =( Simply adding the .mpg onto the end doesn’t actually change the type of file it is now. How do I change the type of file on a Vista?
Nevermind! I finally found the bit about unchecking the box that hides the filename extensions. LIFESAVER!! It works now!
I have renamed the MOD file into MPG or AVI and it works fine watching it with VLC I have tryed MediaPlayer and I cannot make it happen. The problem is the MOI file wich contains date and time info wich I am not able to see when I watch the file converted in AVI or MGP,
Any idea on how to open the MOI along with AVI or MPG?
PS VLC is very easy to use it works with videos and music, it as most of the codecs (a part from MOD! :-() you can find it with a Google serch.
Just download the free mod conversion software here:
http://www.modvideoconverter.com/
It works nice on my computer.
If You’re in windows you can rename a file with these steps:
1. Open the explorer window where your files exist
2. Select the Tools >> Folder Options menu item
3. Click the View Tab
4. Uncheck the option to “Hide extensions for known file types”
5. Click “apply to All Folders if you always want to see the file extensions for every file no matter what folder you are in
6. Click ok to accept all changes and close the dialog window
7. You should now see all the file extensions of the files in the current folder
8. Right click on a filename you wish to change and select Rename
9. Rename the file extension to anything you’d like.
Once you’ve done this, you can just right click a file and rename it in seconds. No software required!
It works! No problems with video or audio quality whatsoever...THANKS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
JVC .. always with these problems.. hayyy...
HI ALL HAD ALL THE SAME PROBS UNTIL NOW , JUST DOWN LOADED THE CODEC FOR VISTA AND NOW CAN EDIT WITH SOUND IN WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER.
YOU CAN Download : Vista Codec Package 5.0.7 FROM
http://www.free-codecs.com/Vista_Codec_Package_download.htm
The MOD file format is just a glorified MPG file. The MOD file type is simply an MPEG-2 video file with a different file extension.
The easiest way to convert MOD files to MPG is simply by renaming the .MOD file extension to .MPG. Occassionaly people have problems after renaming the file type, if you have a loss of audio or video, you’ll just need to search for the proper MPEG-2 video codec. A simple Google search should help you find that.
Check http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/. This piece of freeware allows you to convert .mod files to e.g. wmf. Very easy to use.
I am trying to load movie into Windows movie maker from my stupid JVC camera - I got it to change into MPG file from MOD but now I get a message that says “An interface has too many methods to fire events from” What the heck. This is the most ridiculous thing ever. Please help.
Same problem for me i finnaly worked out to change extensions to MPG instead of MOD but everytime i save it in windows movie maker some of the clips show up as black when i play it, and i know its not my codecs fault cause i have them all and can view in most programs
i have a jvc small camera and i try renaming and i lose all files!!! anyway.. use cyberlink powerdirector and then drag the .mod files then “produce” as a .divx
How do you change to file extension to mpg or something else? There is a list from Saunnie explaining but my windows vista doesn’t have a tools option where my videos are kept so thats out of the quetion. I want to upload a video to youtube and I can’t use imtoo to convert it because it’s an 8 minute long video and it will only convert half of it!
Someone please help!
I want to change the extension of my .mod file so i can edit it on WAX or Adobe Premier or something. any ideas? I tried just renaming the extension but wax wont open it.
Thank you so much Saunnie! You saved my day!
I bought a Panasonic SDR-H40/PC hard drive camcorder, and I spent hours going down the line of this and other question/answer sites, and I believe I found a simple, easy way to turn these .MOD files into .AVI, which can be used in the Windows Movie Maker with ease. (add note, I am using Vista)
I found it out of frustration, I just put a .MOD in my PSP movie converter... and it worked.
Go to:
http://www.redkawa.com/
and download the PSP Video Converter, it’s free.
It should convert the .MOD to a .MP4.
Now go to:
http://www.pazera-software.com/products/mp4-to-avi-converter/
and download the Pazera MP4 to AVI Converter 1.2, it also is free.
Don’t let it intimidate you, I just use the settings that was already there, (Xvid 1.1.3 Final) in the bottom left corner, and I put a check mark in the 2 pass encoding. Everything else is auto, already set.
That will convert your file to an AVI file.
Now beware, it “might” ask for some codex, but if I remember right, it told me the one I needed. Either way, it works for me. I hope this helps someone.
Saunnie you are a star!!!
I was unsure if this was going to work, sounded way to simple but I am proud to say I was wrong
ok i found out a great way to convert your files just rename ur MOD file with any other file name like avi (4 instince) and then you can use it with movie maker
