I have a Panasonic SD card camcorder and have been stumped as to why they would name the files with the .mod extension.
I have renamed the file extension as recommended above to .mpg and Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 now recognizes the videos.
Thanks to all for the recommendations!

I don’t understand these replies. I have been changing the extension from .mod to .mpg manually since last year and have never had a problem on my DVDs. Sound and picture is great.

I could not hear audio when played in Windows Media Player. I converted .mod to .avi still could not hear audio. Opened CinePlayer in Roxio Media Creator 10 Suite. Played .avi and there was audio. Go figure.

Get a copy of Handbrake and use the command line. You can create a batch to convert multiple files at once.

“C:\Program Files\Handbrake\HandBrakeCLI.exe” -i “177.mod” -o “test3.mkv” -e x264 -E faac -b 1300 -2 -T -x ref=3:mixed-refs:bframes=6:bime:weightb:direct=auto:b-pyramid:me=umh:subme=6:analyse=all:8x8dct:trellis=1:nr=150:no-fast-pskip -B 160 -R 48 -D 1 — markers=“chapters.csv” -v

Let It Be wrote: Oh, and for those of you that are interested in buying quality editing programs that recognize .MOD — Pinnacle Studios 10 DOES NOT. All it has been is a pain. It says it recognizes .MOD, but you need to register your program first and get some stupid code, which, once entered, is supposed to allow .MPEG and .MOD import, but it doesn’t work. I have emailed and phoned customer service and there are not helpful. I gave up and just did everything through Cyberlink.

ISN’T TECHNOLOGY WONDERFUL?!

Ummmm... I have an XP and a Vista Machine and BOTH run my MOD files just fine on Pinacle Studios 10 and above... IDK what kinda problems you were having but I’ve had none, it just worked fine off the bat with both...

I changed the extensions to .mod on an apple and it says that “This file is not a movie file." I’m trying to make them work for Imovie (apple is for a school project, not my idea!)

Any ideas on how to convert them for imovie?

Thanks in advance.

This message is spam, remove me.

Simply renaming the files does NOT (repeat NOT) make the files available for editing. They will play, but they play as .mod files if you simply tell Windows to open them with media player. JVC should provide a tool for making the files editable on the CD(s). Would that I had one, I would check but I don’t so I can’t.

I’m a Mac user. I’ve tried changing the file extension, tried opening in various media players - Quicktime, Media Player, but no joy. Anyone out there a Mac user who can advise how to get it going. Frustrating that these companies do this sort of thing.

Thanks
