converting . dem files to . avi

how do i use microsoft encoder to convert the .dem fles? ive downloaded it before but cant manage how to use it. confusing shit

bugspray said u cant convert dem to anythny using media encoder. U hav to use the screen recorder that comes with it and record the dem in game... its the only way.

record the demo... then in console start the movie,

then once the movie begins type

startmovie <name> 30

this will convert it to BMP files

Guys I cant still open my DEM file i tried windows encoder... LAGGY Shit. There gotta be some way u can convert DEM to Avi or Mpeg??? What about Steam player??? Or SK Coder??

Hey guys, this is so simple, I hope it solves all of your problems. All you have to do, is download a program called 'Fraps.' Google it. Once you have downloaded that, open up Fraps, then steam. You should see a variety of numbers in the top corner of your screen during your application(s). Play your .dem file, and hit F9 to begin recroding, then F9 again to stop. These recorded files will appear in your 'C:/Fraps' Drive. Once that is done, open windows movie maker, and import the selected files.

Your’e Done! Have fun making those movies!!

I almost forgot to tell you. To play your .dem file, go into your developer console (~) and type “playdemo <file name>"

<File name> is the name of the file you saved your .dem file as. do not type in “file name” type in the name of the file you saved your .dem file as

i have CS 1.5. ancient...i know. i did what everyone said to do. Went into CS, typed “playdemo 'demoname'". the demo started playing.

then i said typed “startmovie 'moviename'" and thats all CS 1.5 will allow. None of the fps and stuff.

CS spits out some kind of response saying movie recording started or something. the playback is extremely slow.

now here comes the bummer. I finish the playback, go back to where my .dem file was, and there are no screen shots. WHY WHY WHY???

-.- Movie maker is crap! I use magix move editing pro... It’s not free, but you can get it free at torrentspy.com or get the uk virsion. It has alot of cool stuff you can do with the movie. It will make you look elite... anywho thats wall I got to say =P

Hi, all i want to do is record a cs video by going to console and typing record " " then m,aking the dem file an avi and load it on to windows movide maker and make a video. i hate fraps all it does is lag me badly.! please help

If the rest of you cant get it, your a noob.

I tell you guys what to do slowly if you dont understand him.

Go into cs console (~ for those who dont know how to do that)
type “demo”
leave console
do what you want
go back into console once youve done what you wanted and type “stop”.
open the screen recorder, windows media encoder is what i use, thanks bugspray, ive heard camtasia has a recorder so you can use that.
Play the demo in cs and then save the screen recording.

(you could just record your game without using the demo command in the console, could save a fair bit of time)

YOU CANT CONVERT STRAIGHT FROM .DEM TO ANY VIDEO FORMAT,
i wanna make that clear.
