Dear Software Experts,

I realize that I am about to ask a really simple question for some of you; however, I am really frustrated by this.

I have a pc with windows xp and I am trying to use Nero 6 to burn some DVD’s from my hard
drive.

As I proceed in several manners, one of two things usually happens. 1. A message prompt instructs me to convert the avi or wma files to ifo, vob or bup files. 2. I am directed to add files from a VIDEO_TS folder, which is totally empty.

This entire process is new to me and I expected that burning a dvd would be a lot more like burning a cd.

Your instructions are very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jason

Hi,
I am getting the same problem, whilst DVDShrink is ok for backing up DVD’s, it doesn’t help when you have got an avi file. Have you found any solution to your problem? If so, please enlighten me as I am going mad!

Cheers

you are not alone. I have been going through the same thing with Nero ever since I bought my dvd burner. Everyone keeps saying how simple it is, but the solutions they give don’t solve the problem. I have a video that I captured (through a capture card) from my camcorder in wmv/avi format that I have been trying to convert to dvd (mpeg 2, supposedly) in order to replay on a standard dvd player connected to my tv. All week I have been wasting blank dvd’s only to have them rejected by both my pc and my standard dvd player for playback. I’ve installed dvd shrink/dvd decryptor/dvd x copy and none of them can make the necessary conversions. I’m determined to solve this problem because I know it there is a wealth of opportunity to be gained from it and no one seems to really know what how to do it. Until then, good luck to you and see ya on the other side! Peace.

Hello again all,

I have managed to successfully get an avi onto dvd. You need TMPGenc to convert the avi into a .m2v file and .wav. Having created these two files, you need IfoEdit. In this package, you can author a DVD using the m2v (movie) and wav (audio) files created earlier. IfoEdit will then create the necessary ifo, bup and vob files required for a standalone DVD player.

Whilst this a bit of a pain in the posterior, it works.

All the Best

I am trying to convert an avi file to vob or ifo to burn a dvd-video. When I try to use tmpgenc I get the following error.

File Cannot open or unsupported. The file is a 700+ MB file. Don’t know if that makes a difference.

It is possible that the file is not a true avi. If the file is say, a downloaded film, a lot of them are compressed into DIVX, or XVID format. I have had no success with getting these to convert. I’m sure it is possible, I heard that VirtualDub can be used to revert the DIVX files back to true avi, but again, I can’t get it to work.

Hi`ya all I`ve been trying the same thing as all of you, I`ve come to the conclusion that Nero is keeping a lot of info from us suckers that have their product installed on XP PC`s,

I think we should all send them an Email venting our anger at them for not including ALL the required programs & cocdec`s in their Nero 6 burning version,

I`m disabled & unfortunately can`t afford to keep splashing out non existent money for upgrades that should have been included in the original versions, to make their program work.

I`m gonna keep trying to solve this mystery also, any success I get I`ll post it here

Hi` all it`s me again

I think I`v solved the answer to codec`s from avi to DVD, this is from Nero`s General FAQ`s page

______________

1. Can I copy DVDs with Nero?

A.....Nero is able to copy DVDs which are not copy protected and which are 4.7GB in size such as is supported by DVDR or DVDRW media.

(Important Note: Most DVD Videos that you can buy are bigger than 4.7GB and they are, for the most part, copy protected.)

2. What is the maximum capacity of a DVD-Video disc?

A..... There are 2 types of DVD media available.

Single layer DVD media can hold up to 135 min. of Video on a 4.7 GB DVD.

Double Layer DVD media can hold up to 240 min. of Video on a 8.5 GB DVD+R DL.

3. I want to burn a DVD-Video disc but I always get an error message saying compliance test failed' when I drop my files into the DVD-Video compilation. Even when I have VOB, IFO and BUP files.

A .......Sometimes DVD Authoring programs create non-complaint video projects. (Important Note: Nero cant burn illegally ripped DVDs. Usually they losing compliance through ripping.)

so now we all know, any more solutions from a very bright techie. please post answers Here,

Holy cow.....

Tools everyone in this post must have:

avicodec (avicodec.duby.info)

This tells you what codec your dealing with.... in your downloaded porno and will tell you whether or not you have the correct codec installed...for your downloaded porno.

Tmpgenc (www.pegasys-inc.com)

You can use this to convert....your downloaded porno to compatible mpeg2 files...for your porno dvd.

Tmpgenc dvd author (www.pegasys-inc.com)

With this program you can take your downloaded-porno-converted-to-dvd-compatible-mpeg2-files and create a quick and simple menu, create the vobs and burn them to dvd...your downloaded porno dvd.

This is the easiest method. Trust me, been doing this crap for years and years.

Go read

Hi`ya, it`s ezz again Gish, has the answer, thanks for the info, altho you have a greater knowledge than us, you are still talking in “techy speak," I`m fairly knowledgeable about most stuff but you have me completely baffled by what you say, could you please create a step-by-step walk through of the process, maybe you could type one up in, say a notepad, & paste it here, Thanks M8

ps mine aren`t porn, they`re James Bond films & Illegal street racing ( Cars & Bikes) ,

Can I add that with Nero 6 Ultra edition, you still need to download the upgrade pack 2. This is free. The part required is Nero Express 2. This can be used to autor a DVD from an avi and thus create all required vob’s, bup’s or ifo’s.

Cutting to the chase, I am not trying for porn either, I simply want to put an avi film onto DVD to watch anywhere other than my computer. As it happens, whilst I have mentioned this upgrade, I have not successfully managed to get any avi onto DVD so this is just a theory, it doesn’t seem to work in practice. huh sad huh

Hi`ya all it`s crumbly ezz again, put TMPGEnc into your browser down load it, — it`s a 30 day trial version, this will convert almost any file type, to be able to put it on a DVD, — be aware tho, very long files
( Films ) - will not have room on a 4.7Gb disc, they take up more space than is allowed I`ve found this out by mistake,

Hi

if your files are up over 4.7GB you can use AnyDVD to shrink it. Just have it running in the background while you burn the DVD...
To convert I use Ulead DVD MovieFactory.
But it’s not cheap.
I found out that it converts much faster and it’s much easier.
So maybe it’s worth it...
