Why the .AVI file gets "bigger" when I put the subtitles on it

OK... I have an 700MB .AVI file, and when I “burn” the permanent subtitles with the TMPGEnc, this new .AVI file goes to 2.1GB!!!! Please... how can I stay in 700MB?? Thanks
