unable to burn a data disc

I am new to burning and have been trying to create an installation disk of ubuntu, but the file won’t burn to the disk. I don’t know much about the internal workings of the computer and though I have requested help in other places, they start talking about partitions and burning logs and I don’t even know what that stuff is.
I just would like to know if there is somewhere that the burn process is disabled.

I have tried my Nero express, Windows cd wizard, Windows Media Player and an Iso recorder download and nothing works. It says its recording and I wait and the disk is always blank.

Can someone please help a me burn a disk and keep in mind that I really know nothing about the inner workings of the computer, but I can follow instructions if pointed in the right direction.
