I need help and bad with my computer

1.)OK my computer WILL NOT read a dvd+r disc even though i have the software to write a dvd+r disc.What can i do to fix that?
2.)how can i get my dvd player to read cd-r discs?(this is not as important as number one)

Here is a link: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters .Type the name of your burner if is not on the list and find out what is doing because not all of them work with dvd -r or +r.If you ask about your dvd player the standalone one check on the same site just go to dvd players and see if works with more than dvd.Some of them work with vcd and svcd the very old only dvd.The new model is comming with a lot of options like mp3 DivX Xvid WMP and a hard drive and the very high price.
