Hey, I got some torrent movies, not ripped, and they come as avi files, and on the program i downloaded xilisoft converter said for me to convert avi to vob to burn them on to a dvd. what am i supposed to do, avi or vob, it would be so much simpler to do avi to dvd, becuase it takes like 2 hours to convert, it needs to play on ps2 our other dvd player said dvd-r so it won’t work with our dvd+r discs if i burn it to them obviously, but working on the ps2 is more important, so i have some movies on my pc, avi files, should i convert them to vob then burn them? or will avi work fine?

Hi Everyone.

I’m having trouble burning my DVD’s to other DVD’s I’ve ripped the DVD to the computer and then dragging the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS to the burn feature on Vista to copy it to my DVD. It copies the DVD fine but when i go to play it on my PS3 or a DVD player it dont work! Thankfully my PS3 tells me that its an Error. But my question does anyone know why my copy DVD wont work?. My DVD player supports all formats of DVD but it stil wont work! And the type of files im copying are .Vob, .Ifo and .Bup to the disk. I used a program to get rid of any Copyright that was on the disk and it does it and i can play the .Vob on Windows Media Player but i want to make a duplicate of the disk for backup reasons. Do I need some sort of burning software to burn the files? Or is it something to do with naming the disk?

If anyone can help I would it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

When a DVD disc is placed into a standard DVD player, the player looks for a directory or folder named VIDEO_TS (Video Title Sets). For maximum compatibility, the name of this folder is expected to be in all capitals with no lowercase letters. Older DVD players also look for the additional folder AUDIO_TS (Audio Title Sets). Many modern DVD movies contain only the required VIDEO_TS folder. If the VIDEO_TS folder is not present or cannot be read, most player displays a short error message such as “No Disc” on the screen.

Once the VIDEO_TS folder is located, the DVD player makes an attempt to read the contents of the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in this folder (IFO stands for “Information”wink. This file contains required information and data structures to instruct the player how to play back the inserted disc. If this file is missing or it cannot be read for any reason, the DVD player makes another attempt to read the alternate file VIDEO_TS.BUP (BUP stands for “Back up”wink. When a DVD disc is created, authoring software creates the file VIDEO_TS.BUP as a backup copy of the VIDEO_TS.IFO. If both the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP files cannot be read or accessed, most DVD player again displays the short error message such as “No Disc” on the screen.

I suggest making your own .IFO file for the vobs you have

first rename each vob file in the order you want played as:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB and so on..

you can create your own .IFO with this free program located here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/PgcEdit.shtml

then burn to a blank DVD-R. just one folder on the disk named: VIDEO_TS and put the vobs and the IFO in it.

Is there any way to burn VOB files to a DVD, so that the files will work together as a unit, with its own orignal menue and chapters? When trying to burn VOB files to a DVD with Nero 7 Ultra, each file end up as a separate chapter on the DVD, and they don’t play as originally intended. Some play, others are just black, and the file with the original menue only pops up briefly and then goes black.

I did paste the VIDEO_TS folder with all the files in the burning contents window. I tried pasting in the AUDIO_TS folder also, but it is empty. The preview shows VTS_01.0001 as chapter 1., VTS_01.0002 as chapter 2., VIDEO_TS as chapter 3., and VTS_02_0 as chapter 4..
The files should not be made into chapters like this.

COpying DVDs is more complicated than it needs to be. In any case, Open Source SW - 'Imgburn' is the one I would recommend for reading and writing to and from DVDs. Here is the tutorial that is really a life-saver and huge timesaver too:

good luck!

If you don’t have the .bup and .ifo files to go with your .vob files, burn them using ConvertXtoDvd, otherwise, use DvdSanta and save yourself some grief.

A tool that works and I have used to burn VOB files is
CDBurnerXP.
It is OPEN SOURCE AND FREE.
Procedure
Open program
Click on File
Drag down to Video DVD Layout and select
A box will open
Go to VOB diles destination,
When the files show up in box, simply click button
Create Movie
It is available at http://cdburnerxp.se/download
Please donate, this is a good program. I quit using Nero once learned of this program.
The program is 100% free and believe it is Open Source.
Don’t know if the program support menus.

Just did this

Worked like a charm
