Burning VOB to DVD's..

I do this all the time:
1. convert VOB to AVI file. I use DVD2AVI (it does the job)
2. Use CREATE DVD in NERO (or other programs) and add the AVI. Nero uncompresses the AVI (turns it into Video TS / Audio TS folder) usually one and a half to two times the size of the .avi.
Note: Nero lets me create menus and chapters to my DVD, which I enjoy doing. Also the quality of the uncompressed avi is better than the orginal. My DVD player plays .avi files and the ones I have turned into actual DVDs (Video TS) look much sharper with less jitter.

welshtigerEntreeI have been going through all the posts and trying out different methods because i had a 7.4 gb series on disc which i wanted to copy, and yes they were .vob files.
Out of all the options everyone has mentioned, i found that if you wanted to completely copy disc, different chapters etc this is what i found best:
download dvd shrink ( i had 3.2 version ) free
download DVD Decrypter ( again you can get free )
now put the film/series disc into pc and using dvd shrink it will automatically reduce the size to fit on standard 4.7 dvd disc
this is what i found best as some have mentioned, save the reduced film/series as ISO file, options are there if you look on dvd shrink
when it has finished, you simply double click on that ISO file and the DVD Decrypter will burn it using your dvd rw.
Yes by compressing it from 7.4 to 4.7gb you loose some quality but not much.
you can use the re-author button on dvd shrink to add just what episodes you want to get the maxium quality.
another way to just burn the .vob files were to download convertXtoDVD ( from LIMEWIRE or FROSTWIRE with crack ) and drag which .vob files you wanted and just burn onto disc, the quality i found was no where as good though.
please post if this has help you in any way.
i did manage to download NERO and DVD Santa ( from FROSTWIRE ) but i didn’t find these that easy to understand.
again i hope this helps all, i am a novice but with alot of trial and error, i can normally work it out.

Nero7 premium will simply do this. Only vob files are required. No need for bup, ifo files
Ordinary Nero will not do the trick

...years later ...
I’m having a problem finding a suitable program to put a movie on a dvd. I have the avi files. Now I need something that burns it onto DVD. I used SUPER from erightsoft to convert the .avi to .vob file but it doesn’t contain the bup or inf files. DVD shrink encounters an error and will not read it. I don’t have Nero but looks like I should be getting it to burn to dvd unfortunately the size is larger than the dvd allows so I need to re-author. Ulead Movie Factory 3 (yes it’s old) doesn’t read the avi files or .vob files maybe I should get my hands on an up to date version.
I seem to be stuck making 3 or 4 conversions before I can get it to dvd. Or I could use SUPER to convert to MPG and then I would be able to burn with DVD Movie Factory. Isn’t it better to go to VOB from AVI than to go to MPG? Seems to me like the MPG file gets converted into a readable format for the dvd player but the vob is just moved over directly, then again I need to re-author the vob file to fit on the dvd. aarrrgh! It’s starting to seem like a whole waste of time.
Anyone have any up to date thoughts?

OH! this is an ongoing post I replied to an older posting from a google look up. Regardless any reason why DVD Shrink does not read the VOB file created by SUPER?
I second the motion that SUPER by erightsoft is the best player converter out there. Just drag a video into it and see if it plays. SUPER plays .avi .mkv .mpg etc... and converts them to any format.
Another tip - If you have .mkv files sometimes just changing the extension to .avi will play them. My computer does but my friends computer does not.

Super DVD Creator does the trick (9 is the latest)!! Thanks for mentioning it above!
So if you don’t like Nero use this, although Super DVD Creator recommends using Nero as a third party to burn your discs. Generally Super DVD Creator will burn all your DVD folders to Disc however under some conditions it won’t and they recommend using and refering to the Nero help to burn using Nero.
Never-the-less I don’t have NERO and Super DVD Creator works great! Any file .avi .divx .mpg .mkv can be converted by this software and directly burned to dvd. PERFECT!
Or you can join a couple of videos together and create the dvd folder with .vob .bup and .ifo files and then, if you wish, use dvd shrink, or your favorite, to fit it onto a single dvd.
If you are using SUPER to convert your videos to .VOB, it doesn’t include the .ifo and .bup files so you need to use NERO to burn. Some programs won’t burn the .vob files without the .ifo and .bup but Nero will.

Hey I followed every step to do the same, Burn DVD from .VOB, .IFO files created by DVD Decrypter.
My problem is when burning this VIDEO_TS folder (created by dvddecrypter) using IMGTOOL BURN 1.2.1, I get the missing file VIDEO_TS.BUP message in the log window. Well, I Copyed the VIDEO_TS.IFO file to other folder end renamed to VIDEO_TS.BUP. Then I put this renamed file in the VIDEO_TS folder. Everything worked until I got another missing file: VTS_07_0.BUP or another similar.
What can I do if this file was not created from the original DVD ripped with DVD Decrypter.
BTW, I used the option Main Movie and IFO files.
Please HELP

Not too sure about your issue.
I’ve heard IFOedit (free) might fix the files for you. Otherwise I believe you have to try to find DVD Shrink (free as well) to download and use that. If you’re getting errors with image tool burn then you may need to choose another root.
Maybe try IMGburn 2.4.2.0 it’s free as well and it should do the trick.

Hi, I’m having trouble locating a VOB to WMV or other format converter software.
I’m trying to convert my VOB files so I can put them onto Movie Maker so I can make them smaller so they’ll fit onto my DVD’s, but MM doesn’t take VOB files.
If someone could help, I’d be very grateful. Possibly something that’s free and has no watermark
Thanks.

Just Use Auto GK to make your file an .avi then use Vista’s “Windows DVD Maker”.

Want to burn DVD files to a single layer; viewable on a regular dvd player. I have nero 8, if you can explain how to do it with that, I would appreciate it.
Also, cloneDVD seems to be the best ripper out there. How come clone version 2 comes with a 'burn to dvd' feature[ in v2, you click 'rip to HD', then, as separate step, click 'burn to DVD'], and v 3 and 4 do not? Do I just not how how to use it?
I can reciprocate a reply that helps with music; have 100 gigs willing to share some. — — for example.....i rip my CDs to hard drive with ACRP, then burn them to cd or dvd with Nero, in cdr, mp3, or data format. (as the dvd equivelant)I have the first part down, ripping with clone, what do I use (and how) to go from hard drive data ).vob, or the other two) to viewable DVD file?
