i have the same problem, it’s been going on for about a month. does anyone know how to fix it? or even help me?

THE ERROR MESSAGE i GET SAYS INCOMPATABLE FILE TYPE. I NEED A SOLUTION QUICK
I used Real player (basic free version) and went to clip properties under “file” and removed clip properties (upper left in “clip properties” pop-up). The clip then loaded fine into moviemaker. No codec isses after that.
If you rip the songs through windows media player it will let you add them to movie maker.
How do we know what codec file to download?
Here is what I found that works for this problem. Although I converted my mp3 file to a wav file and it worked in windows movie maker. Found from another source.

First I downloaded AVIcode:

I used this to find out the type of V. codec my video needed.
It told me I needed XVID Mpeg-4.
So I went here and downloaded the XVID codec.
