tag 85

Hi folks, I’ve followed the instructions here... I’ve got the Tag 85 error in DivX 6.0 when running .avi (not all of them, strangely just one file). I’ve installed the freunhaffer mp3 codec and I still get the Tag 85 error. When I installed the ffdshow I get a new error videodata: fourcc followed by a runtime error. Has anyone got any other tips. I’m dying to see the rest of Lost!!! Thanks in advance.

I’ve already got the Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio. I installed that for the initial tag85 error.

Sorry I did not see it.What player are you using? VLC and BSplayer are very good and much better than WMP.Any codec pack has a lot of stuff in it but mostly I loose Xvid setting after a scan on my computer.Reinstalling fix the problems.Here is a link to a fourcc listing :http://abcavi.kibi.ru/fourcc.php Maybe might help in any way.

I’m using the free DivX 6.0 player. I installed that because windows media player wouldn’t play the audio (and doesn’t give any idea about which codec is missing which is not helpful!). I don’t understand why the video layer was playing absolutely fine until installing that mpeg3 codec - if I uninstall it the video comes back along with the Tag 85 error.

I’ve tried winamp and that plays sound but no vid!!!

OK - update - installed a fourcc xvid codec and still getting the error message relating to fourcc xvid and the runtime error. This affects all the .avi files now and not just the one that wasn’t playing audio so I’m going to have to uninstall it and get back to the previous state with the tag 85 error on the one .avi file.

Any more ideas anyone?

How about the driver for your video card? You said for any avi file.Reinstall in order DirectX and the driver from the manufacturer site and try a file that work before.If is ok sound and picture you may try a Xvid file.For WMP is codec pack on Microsoft site and also a fix file for MPEG4.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;895181 If is not the video card is a MPEG2 decoder and you may find it on free codec site or any codec pack you like.Good Luck.

Thanks for all your help Marcus :-) My card driver and direct x are all fine. I’ve got the thing into previous state - all .avi working well, except for two which still report the tag 85 error so I am wondering if it is an issue with the file rather than the player/system as it seems very odd that others work fine. It’s a head scratcher!

OK, I’ve run the files through GSpot. Out of 26 episodes of Lost only two files have no sound. I’ve got all the codecs installed ok according to gspot. I am going to assume whoever made the .avi files has messed them up. Probably easier to try and download an alternative file. Cheers anyway.

Troubleshooting is for fun so far you don’t loose your temper.If you think is something with the file Google an avifixer tool and play with.VLC Videolan is a very complex player and is free take a look on their site how many files is playing and besides VLC and BSplayer or Zoom player are the only free tools playing subtitle.Microcheap just added on their infamous WMP.

I have windows xp sp2. Whenever i try to burn a cd on my windows media player 10.....it will not burn. It used to convert..but it will not now. I get C00D11CD error id=0xC00D11CD When i go to HELP microsoft windows states codec 11 missing. I downloaded ace mega codecs...but, that is not the solution. The content(songs) are not protected. Any help would be appreciated....THANKS BILL

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Marcus Aurelius!!!! I’ve been fighting with this tag 85 error for three days now. I’ve added who knows how many codec updates in that time. The VLC player is fantastic and works like a dream! You’ve just made my day.

VLC PLAYER is the way to go. You still won’t hear sound in the windows media player. But who cares??
The VLC Player has a clean easy to use interface. I like it, and it was the only program I could find that would play the files I was getting the TAG 85 error.
