Sound too fast!!

Hi guys, I got a bit of a weird problem.

When I try to play a XVid movie, the sound coming out of the file is accelerated. Video is perfect, though. After a few seconds of play, I get an error message and WMP shuts.

I don’t get this problem with other files on the same computer, or the same file on different computer. Any ideas?

hmm.. I also could need some help here..
especially some Div3 and XviD codecs seem to behave weird...

My problem is all the time, not with any specific usage. My machine (Wind 2K, PIII 1GHz) sometimes after a reboot, the sound works fine. Then following another reboot, back to the chipmonks! Would it help to search for new sound drivers. Unfortunately, there are many drivers for the sound/controllers. Suggestions/comments? Also, please note that the machine just came back from the shop after having the HDD whipped clean and Win2K re-installed. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all....

I have exactly the same problem. I recently reinstalled win2000 on my computer, and ever since the sound has been 'chipmonks' And not only in pure windows, all other things as well (games, winamp, even internet radio)

my specs:
1GHz
335 MBram
win2000
soundcard: onboard (AC’97 i believe)

i have almost the same problem only its the opposite... the sound is fine but the video goes too slow. its horrible especially since my videos have subtitles and you dont know whats going on when!
