Hi Im trying to play .mkv files in divx player which is divx 7.1 so you would think the video file should play but when I open the .mkv video file in divx player it says “the file contains an audio track in unknown format you may need to install a directshow decoder for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack to this file. And I already tried installing all the 3rd party codecs for the .mkv video files. Can anyone help me?

You’ll probably want to feed the media file into mediainfo
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download
and find out what the audio codec is
It’s probably something like AC3 or Vorbis, which aren’t bundled with DivX. If AC3, download ac3filter. If vorbis, try http://xiph.org/dshow/
If you’re lazy, get ffdshow-tryouts or VLC Media Player.
