Problem playing avi, Dolby AC3 Audio (code 8192) install Directshow decoder?

This took me a minute to figure exactly what file to download. Just so everyone knows, download the ac3 filter file!

i downloaded the codec.. but when i click the file it doesnt know what program to open it with.. its one of those unknown files

I downloaded the Directshow Decoder and I was still getting no audio... I figured out that I needed to download the AC3Filter. After I downloaded the file I am getting audio!!!! I hope this works for you too!

I got the free download from http://ac3filter.net/project/1/releases

You have to scroll down to the middle of the page for the installer!

I have downloaded the file, but now the volume is low. It seems to be a common problem on this forum. Does anyone know why this is or how to solve this? Music and other sounds on my laptop works fine. Thanks for any help you can provide.

This post was excellent but is a little outdated now. If you’re still having trouble, this is the updated information:

You can go directly to this link and download the AC3 Filter that will open the soundtrack in your .avi file.

Download: ac3filter_1_46.exe

You can extract this directly into Program Files. Just open and install. You no longer need to reboot first for this filter to work.
