No sound or picture with AVI

posted in Audio Codecs, viewed 124k times Page 7 of 10« first ‹ prev 4 5 6 [7] 8 9 10 next › last »

I have downloaded three dvd rips (avi). One plays perfectly but the other two dvd rips won’t play on wmp or divx.

I can move through the film and look at freeze frame shots that sometimes move for a few seconds and then stop - the end of the file plays for longer - but I also have no sound whatsoever.

The DVD extras from these films play perfectly!!

Can anyone help? reply

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE SOMETHING MUCH EASIER AND MORE EFFICIENT WITH DOWNLOADING, WELL JUST ABOUT ANYTHING YOU WANT.
THERE IS THIS PROGRAM CALLED “UTORRENT” AND BASICALLY IT ATTACHES ITSELF TO YOUR COMPUTER AND ILL TELL YOU WHY IN A SECOND. SO AFTER THAT IS DOWNLOADED, AND OPENED TO YOUR COMPUTER, THERE ARE THESE WEBSITES WHICH YOU CAN GOTO AND DO A SEARCH FOR A MOVIE. NOW LETS SAY YOU FOUND THE MOVIE YOU WANT, YOU THEN CLICK ON IT AND IT GIVES YOU AND OPTION TO “DOWNLOAD TORRENT” AND SO YOU CLICK ON THAT. WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS NOT DOWNLOADING THE MOVIE JUST YET. WHAT YOU HAVE DOWLOADED IS A SEED FOR THE MOVIE TO GROW FROM. I BRIEFLY TOLD YOU ABOUT “UTORRENT” AND NOW ILL EXPLAIN IT MORE. SO ON YOUR COMPUTER NOW, U WILL HAVE THIS SEED(MOVIE TORRENT) AND THE PROGRAM TO GROW IT WITH “UTORRENT”.
BASICALLY- “UTORRENT” IS LIKE...A GARDEN, WHICH THEN YOU PLANT THIS SEED “MOVIE TORRENT” AND THEN IT GROWS “DOWNLOADS THE ACTUAL MOVIE” IT WILL TELL YOU WHEN ITS DONE. I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE, IT IS FAIRLY EASY AND IM SUTRE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU DO IT.

1ST- GOTO VERSIONTRACKER.COM AND DOWNLOAD A PROGRAM CALLED “UTORRENT”

NOW MAKE SURE ITS INSTALLED AND ALL THAT. OPEN IT.

HERE ARE A FEW SITES TO SEARCH FOR MOVIES:

USE THE SEARCH BOX AND TYPE THE MOVIE YOU WANT.
WHEN IT SHOWS A LIST OF THEM, MAKE YOU YOU PICK ONE THAT IS ABOUT 700MB OR SO, SINCE THE OTHERS MAY BE JUST POSTERS AND OR THINGS LIKE THAT.

WHEN YOU FIND THE RIGHT ONE, THEN OPEN IT AND CLICK DL TORRENT.

IT SHOULD TAKE A SEC, THEN WITH UTORRENT THERE IS A LITTLE BUTTON TO CLICK UNDER THE FILE BUTTON, IT HAS A PLUS SIGN ON IT. CLICK IT.

A WINDOW WITH THE TORRENTS THAT YOU PUT ON YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE WEBSITES WILL OPEN. SELECT THE TORRENT(MOVIE TITLE) YOU ARE GOING TO DL AND CLICK OPEN.

THATS IT. SOME MAY BE QUICK COME MAY TAKE A DAY OR TWO OR SOME LONGER BUT YOUR WILL HAVE A GREAT QUALITY MOVIE TO WATCH.

I HOPE THAT EVERYTHING GOES WELL, AND IF YA HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THEN EMAIL ME.
dankaleta@hotmail.com

LEMMIE KNOW WHAT YOU THINK, AND JUST TO LET YOU KNOW SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT BEABLE TO DOWNLOAD MOVIES THAT HAVENOT EVEN BEEN IN THEATERS YET. HAVE FUN

I had a problem with my computer recently that resulted in videos running with sound but no video. I was getting problems with all the software I used to view videos(mpg, avi, xvid etc). I was getting a green screen on windows media player. I had all the codec installed that was needed to view these videos but the problem persisted, not even taking the overlaying option off on winamp helped. I have a nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX. I went to the nvidia website and downloaded the most up-to-date driver available for my card and hey presto it worked! reply

For the people who are still unable to hear sound when viewing a movie through Windows Media Player:

wow..im normally good at this but this one took me a while to figure out...got it working though...so i’ll try to be the hero here...

1 - download l3codecx.exe from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPEG_Layer_3_Codec.htm. This should install l3codeca.acm, l3codecp.acm, and l3codecx.acm into your c:\windows\system32 folder.

2 - download l3codecx.ax from here: http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0254531101/l3codecx.ax. Save this file into your c:\windows\system32 folder ( I don’t know why this file was excluded from the executable in the above link but if it was there it would have solved my problem right away! )

3 - Go to Start -> Run and copy and paste this line: regsvr32.exe l3codecx.acm. Click OK to message that says the file was registered successfully.

4 - Again go to Start -> Run and copy and paste this line: regsvr32.exe l3codecx.ax. Click OK to message that says the file was registered successfully.

Try to run your file.

If that doesn’t work I did some tests based on what was found here: http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.4 - I downloaded the Gspot file, ran my movie against it and identified exactly what codec I was missing.
http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/5628p2.html - Here is where I found the link to obtain the codec I needed, it has other info there too.

This fix is good. Worked great for me. Cheers mate. reply

for me it all boiled down to this, downloading the xvid codec.

i had problems veiwing the actually picture of my film, i could only hear the sound.
i used the GSPOT program that “TeKsuppOrt Guy” kindly uploaded and discovered that in all 3 cases, it was mearly the Xvid codec missing.

bellow is a link to the website i downloaded my codec from, now all videos play perfectly.

http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

hope that helps reply
