I have a similar problem, I hear only the audio without the pictures? But it wasn’t like that before, I’m sure because my sister and I watched the .avi files, which I downloaded from torrentspy.com through azureus, and they were fine, but when I opened them again it became like that! I tried system restore, or download the other stuff said in other forums but nothing works, what gives?

Thanks very much — the fix in the registry worked! Greatly appreciate your help.

Happy new year!

wow..im normally good at this but this one took me a while to figure out...got it working though...so i’ll try to be the hero here...

1 - download l3codecx.exe from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPEG_Layer_3_Codec.htm. This should install l3codeca.acm, l3codecp.acm, and l3codecx.acm into your c:\windows\system32 folder.

2 - download l3codecx.ax from here: http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0254531101/l3codecx.ax. Save this file into your c:\windows\system32 folder ( I don’t know why this file was excluded from the executable in the above link but if it was there it would have solved my problem right away! )

3 - Go to Start -> Run and copy and paste this line: regsvr32.exe l3codecx.acm. Click OK to message that says the file was registered successfully.

4 - Again go to Start -> Run and copy and paste this line: regsvr32.exe l3codecx.ax. Click OK to message that says the file was registered successfully.

Try to run your file.

If that doesn’t work I did some tests based on what was found here: http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.4 - I downloaded the Gspot file, ran my movie against it and identified exactly what codec I was missing.
http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/5628p2.html - Here is where I found the link to obtain the codec I needed, it has other info there too.

Same here! Nothing worked. I’m using a Win XP SP2 machine, with WMP 10. I’ve installed all thost Frauheuzer codecs and loads which fit that description. But nothing works.

Strangely, on my dad’s slightly newer (but still XP home SP2) computer, they play fine first time without the need for any audio codecs installed!

Only thing I can think of is that he has Sonic My DVD thing installed?

Thanks for the link. I downloaded/installed the program, but how does that help me acquire the codec I need?

Thanks,
