Another way to do it is to convert your files to wav and after that back again to a proper working mp3. I used CDEX for the job. It works perfectly now!

I have Vista Basic, windows media player 11, and a brand new computer.
I tried renaming the file, and either it wont let me, or I’m too retarded.
I downloaded the first codec pack. No change.
I downloaded the second codec pack. I find myself in a sea of letters and numbers that might make sense to a computer, but, to us humans, is complete gibberish.
It installed correctly (as far as I know) and now is giving me lists upon lists, and tabs upon tabs of what is (to me) useless options that I do not, and will never understand.
I guess my question is this: How and the hell do you get the K-Lite codec pack to work with WMP? Because there still seems to be no change.
And, to all you people who keep saying “Use something else” well, I can’t. It wont load in quicktime (because quicktime doesn’t “understand” this file type). And, even if I could get quicktime to work, I would only use it for that one song, because it sucks. VLC, from what I’ve seen, also sucks. In fact, pretty much everything that I’ve seen except WMP sucks.
Not sure if this will help but winamp which is a free download will play these files. Not heard anything for med player though.
Just forget WMP. If microsoft can not get there thing together just use another application.
WOW, Thanks ITAN!!!!
Changing the file extention from mp3 to mp2 was simple and now it plays!
I converted one to mp3 overwriting it using dbpoweramp, worked fine after that.
i Have the same problem, what i do is run the ones that dont play, in my converter. to mp3, aand the work fine, i know this is not the answer but at least you can listen to your fav tunes... I use WinMediaConverter 6
i uploaded this on rapidshare http://rapidshare.com/files/100293431/WinMediaConverter_6.0.3.0.exe.html
MP2 it is.
NOT MP3.
rename file or convert it.
renaming the file extension from mp3 to mpg may do the trick
doesn’t it sound stupid when you don’t read the whole thread
Download Audacity (freeware) Import the file into Audacity, THEN download the LAME codec, and then re-export the file to mp3.
Audacity will ask you to download the LAME files if you choose export (to mp3)under FILE. (Saving a Audacity project isn’t gonna work for playing the file you have to export as MP3, WAV, OGG VORBIS,etc.
Get Audacity, it does a LOT for editing audio files.
ola amigos, why dont you just play it on the VLC-player, plays everything, hm just a tought, fuck windows media player,he
khoanguyen wrote: hi, i have meet the same stutation, and i found a solution. I downloaded “vista codec packages”. Link here : http://fileforum.betanews.com/browse/Multimedia&Graphics/Video/Codecs
Hope that it can help you.
Just downloaded that codec and still doesn’t play in WMP :s
i had the same problem but i found out that you can simply just convert the file on this page:
http://media-convert.com/convert/
you dont have to change the file just convert the file to the same type again and over write the other non-useable file![]()
i have been having problem playing some mp3, it codec 50 is missing. i make use of windows vista. someone pls help me.
Thank-you KhuanGuyen; I believe you have solved the problem for me!
just rename the file without any extension and then open using WMP. Should work, it did for me
i converted these to mp3 using avs media audio tools. worked for me
does anyone out there have a solution to this codec problem? I can’s seem to find the Microsoft MPEG-1 (50) that I need to play some video music stuff. Where do I get it?
i was also having the same problem. but now i am having VLC media player which can play the files of same format.
GOM PLAYER also does the same job. install any one of this and enjoy.
