I had the same problem. I discovered the file will play with divX player.
i had the same error message. imrunning vista and couldnt get any downloaded movies from my brothers video camera to play so i just used the windows media enccoder program. i found it in all programs tab in window media folder. it worked great. when i reformatted the videos i had saved to my thumb drive i just reset the encoder to dvd quality for video and cd quality for audio it is much faster than HD for both.
same problem + lots more with Vista
solution - dump vista and get something that actually works!!!!!!!!!!!
