thanks to GarethVista I used the drop method to moviemaker and it works like a charm.
I found codec"11”, but still it did nothing, so don’t bother.

It worked for me in Windows Photo Gallery, too.

Thanks, philldee.

A quick question?
Where do I find the Windows Movie Maker that is often mentioned as a solution?
Just wondering...

Place any photo in the folder with your movies. Click it to open Windows Photo Gallery. Now scroll to movies, they play.

If you are paranoid or restricted about computer settings then this will work. Vista... built by committee :-)

Thanks GarethVista, that solution about moving them to Moviemaker worked. Now I can play and burn them.

I downloaded some old family videos and it comes up with that it cannot be run because of a missing codec. i went to the microsoft help and it came up with this. Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec. I’m not computer savy but i’ve been looking up the audio codecs and i don’t seem to understand. I would really appreciate it if someone can help out.

Moosetek13 wrote: Here is another quick fix which I just stumbled upon:

Go to Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click the Hardware tab.
Go to (double-click or select and choose Properties) Audio Codecs.
Select the Properties tab.
Double-click (or click on and click the Properties button for) imaadp32.acm.

Make sure 'Use this audio codec' is selected.

Several of my audio codecs were set to 'Do not use this audio codec', which was my problem in hearing audio from files downloaded from my digital camera.

Did you do this on Vista? because I get no such options or anything even similar whether I use Vista Control Panel view or “Classic View” ... my option is Control Panel : Hardware and Sound (Classic View separates these) ... choosing “Sound” option only allows volume or device & driver control ... nothing for Codecs, right-click is useless, “Search” doesn’t even help

if you put the files in windows photo gallery the files will play without codec.

I open the Windows Movie Maker and imported the video, it works! Both sound and image are ok.
