Jon Guest | I have the same problem as well. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Kes Guest | The only way I worked it out without having to format was. To create a new user in control pannel and start using that. It works OK. So it must be a problem only linked to configuration of media player in my original profile.

arrowecp Guest | Same problem here too. I’ve already removed and then replaced all my audio codecs (even the ones that come with Windows), and no help.

Kes Guest | Apart from a format the only way I have found is to create another profile in new user under coner control panel. Not the fix I know but at least stuff works with sound. Its just then a case of installing the programs that dont copy over again under this program and getting your mail etc to point to the corrcet folders. I have not deleted my old profile as not sure if I will loose stuff. I am afraid its the only option I can come up with at the moment.

Ki||a Guest | Hey Guys,
Install the latest version of direct X from www.microsoft.com

arrowecp Guest | Updating directx didn’t work for me

Ki||a Guest | Quite frankly I’m not sure how I got rid of the problem :S
i removed all my codecs installed divx from www.divx.com installed latest version of direct X, did a windows update oh and installed winDVD 5.... Im sure that if you do all that it must work, i was having the same problem “error 1” don’t think the codec update did it, must have been winDVD5 (i got that from www.download.com)
Good Luck! | |

arrowecp Guest | Thanks! WinDVD5 will now play .mpg and .mpeg files with audio. The DVD software must do some audio conversion of it’s own because the videos still have no sound in Windows Media Player.
I still can’t find anything to fix .wmv and .asf files.

SpudWebb Guest | I have this same problem. Here is what system I have:
Microsoft Windows XP
Pentium III 667
ATI Radeon 8500DV
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live!
I have no idea what the problem is, but I suspect that maybe the XViD codec has something to do with it. Seeing as though you guys are also experiencing the same problem, on a Movie Codec site, I would not be at all surprised if this is the common denominator. If you have this same problem, I am curious whether or not you had XViD installed. Please post to the board and let me know. I’m determined to solve this problem!
Also, I believe the Microsoft PCM Converter is what should play audio of format tag 1. It’s built in to Windows XP and is still on my system, I believe. (It shows up under Audio Codecs). I tried adjusting it to the top priority, thinking that maybe XViD had lowered its priority, causing things to go wrong, but that change had no effect.
Please help out if you could, I would be grateful

arrowecp Guest | yes I have Xvid. I’m pretty sure I removed it and it didn’t help so I put it back on. If anyone gets windows media player to work and not just winDVD for mpg files PLEASE post.

SpudWebb Guest | Perhaps XViD modifies something and doesn’t repair it when it is uninstalled.
